Poor health is driving a rise in economic inactivity and it’s all about the social determinants of health and austerity over the past decade @HealthFdn

The family of Kennedi, who was strangled to death by her cannabis-addicted partner in 2024, have said they are ‘tormented’ by him being allowed to plead guilty to manslaughter by diminished responsibility, saying he has been ‘absolved’ of her murder.

Kennedi's sister Danielle, who works in the mental health sector as a therapist, said: ‘How do I continue to support others when my own experience has taught me how easily the focus can shift away from the violence itself and those of us left grieving? It is deeply painful that the system I contributed to now feels like it is protecting the perpetrator, not the victim. In cases like this where mental health is a mitigating factor, it feels the focus shifts onto the person who caused the harm and away from those left grieving. That has added to our pain and made the process even harder to endure.’
"A landmark study published in the journal Nature, the largest of its kind, using field measurements and satellite data from 35 research teams, found glaciers in the Alps and Pyrenees have lost about 40% of their mass since 2000."

Samantha Mitchell said she believed her "little girl would still be here today" had police "done their job correctly". The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) found four Essex Police officers "potentially breached standards" but none will face disciplinary action. The force said changes had been made to improve support for domestic abuse victims.
Samantha described the decision as no more than a "slap on the wrist". "The officers didn't kill her but they played their part in her death," she said.
CANCELED: This year's CNE in Toronto won't display a mother pig & piglets inside a cage, due to what Ontario Pork calls "negative public relations incidents" when people post about it online.
Conditions at farms are shocking—no wonder people are shocked to learn the truth.
Attendance was DOWN at the Calgary Stampede this year. I wonder if it's because people don't want to see horses and cows be abused and die in rodeo events? Stampede should go animal-free.

The Met Office has warned that extreme weather is the new normal in the UK.
Meanwhile, newly elected Reform politicians are busy denying the science.
Climate science denial is dangerous, irresponsible and a betrayal of the very communities they claim to represent.
“It is 2025, but these completely preventable killings continue to happen. It’s absurd that Stampede organizers permit this brutal spectacle to continue where horses are doomed to die nearly every year.” — @CamilleLabchuk, ED at Animal Justice

A horse was just KILLED after being injured in the #CalgaryStampede's chuckwagon races, yet there was NO news of the injury during the broadcast 🐴⚠️

I wonder when the penny will drop for parents that because of their continuing apathy and inaction, life for their children is going to be hell.

New analysis from the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) has shown that nurse pay has been so severely eroded, that starting salaries are now over £8k lower than if wages had kept up with inflation since 2010.

A damning report finds govt has failed to act on half of the national recommendations from domestic homicide reviews.
DA Commissioner, Nicole Jacobs says “We’re ignoring the tragedy of women killed by partners.”
Just 25% were fully implemented.

Inside a @MassGeneralNews lab, monkeys are kept in windowless rooms, driven mad by isolation, & desperate for connection—even if it’s only through the glass walls of their cage 😔
