It's been a minute since I've posted one of these, but I've been compiling lots of good stuff to share.
New AI for Educators Notebook is up.

No need to be embarrassed. This is a great use case that works for a lot of people.
For those who haven’t tried it, no special prompting necessary. Just chat. Pi and Claude are 2 other free apps that are great for this

Google's NotebookLM has been a super helpful tool for me. Upload documents and get summaries, ask questions, generate customized podcasts, add notes... all rooted in the docs w/ citations. Nifty little workspace.
This is a perfectly fine approach, but shouldn’t be the only approach students are exposed to.
Writing w/o using AI is a skill.
Using available tools (like AI) to enhance your writing/efficiency/productivity is a skill.
Both have their value, and each can aid the other.
My kid, now a freshman in college, told me her professor announced today (first day of class) that she’s so tired of obvious AI generated essays that she’s carving time out for in class essay writing: shorter essays, hand written, with just the printed primary source material.
With the rate of development of these AI models, now is a good time to revisit that prompt you tried last year.
If you want to try out different models side-by-side to see which one works best for your needs, the @lmsysorg chatbot arena (lmarena . ai) is a great place to do it!
Remember, there are multiple levels to AI use as a teacher.
For example:
You may not feel comfortable using AI to grade writing, but you might find value in being able to instantly generate questions for students that challenge them to think critically about their submission.
@MarioNawfal@sama@elonmusk AI Literacy 101:
The first response pulled from pre-loaded training data (and told you as much).
The second one searched the web for info (indicated by the text, “Searched 3 sites”).
It’s not a conspiracy theory, just edit your prompt to clarify your request. I had no issues:

I couldn’t believe this, so I tested it time and time again
According ChatGPT, Trump was never shot and never faced an assassination attempt
On his should be a wake up call re the importance of X and xAI
@sama you owe us all an explanation, as @elonmusk’s warnings about OpenAI are quickly becoming reality
If this is not addressed soon, I fear it will be too late.

Some of these AI ads during the Olympics have me shaking my head 🤦♂️
“Hey Gemini, write a letter from my daughter to her hero about how much she inspires her.”
No, let your kid do that.
One of the key lessons from @The74’s piece on the major struggles facing LAUSD’s ambitious “Ed” chatbot, summed up nicely by the CEO of @ISTEofficial:
At this point, your AI efforts should be focused on exploration and skill-building, not trying to find the perfect tool.
Love it or hate it, AI music generators are here. Do they belong in the classroom?

@mickie_mueller I haven’t found it to be very helpful. It really struggles with understanding what I’m actually asking for. I do find the AI summaries of reviews to be helpful though.
Wow, lots of interest in these. I know a ton of kids in LA who would jump at the opportunity. Any LA companies willing to host? Would love to help out! Check the site for details ⬇️

@cincylaw@mcuban@markcubanai Agreed! They have applications open for companies that want to host a bootcamp in their community. Need to get the word out to the right orgs.
@hartmams13@mcuban@markcubanai I believe local companies can apply to host a bootcamp in their city. Seems like they are actively seeking more partners. Check the site for info
