$IONQ CEO Niccolo de Masi explains one of the reasons they’re ahead of their competitors.
They’re building on research done in the 1990s by Dr. Chris Monroe, a physics professor from University of Maryland.
Although he and Dr. Jungsang Kim from Duke University founded $IONQ in 2015, the technology can be traced back to 1995 when Chris demonstrated the first quantum logic gate using trapped ions.
This is why Niccolo says they’re a 30-year-old business.
Combine this with the acquisitions of Oxford Ionics and now Skywater, and it’s hard to see how competitors will catch up.
