@Cluffalo My sweet entitled darling, you never had a man dump you at age 38. When you hit your upper 30s and want kids, you make trade offs. Glad your life has turned out perfectly, but having a child without a partner is better than being divorced in my opinion.
@oldenoughtosay People are so nice to you when you are pregnant. I was at PetSmart buying kitty litter and the clerk came RUNNING to bring me a cart and then insisted on carrying everything out to the car. The VIP status is lovely!
@homemakinghunny I was so excited to shop for maternity clothes until I found out it is one pair of ugly jeans and some kind of frumpy calico dress in the back corner. It took me forever to find decent work pants - I can’t be the only pregnant woman who works in an office!
@love_in_myst@homemakinghunny Oh my god, PREACH. I was shocked how hard it was to find a pair of decent relaxed or boot cut jeans with a pregnancy top!
@feelsdesperate@kjh1138 My dude, you literally just described the nominating process pre-1968. FDR and JFK were both nominated this way. Primaries are a very modern phenomenon. FDR and JFK both won the nomination thru “party elites and donors.”
@RobynElyse I never smoked and I totally agree with you. American culture is very averse to conversations with strangers.
I agree that the best (hard) way to make friends is to attend a scheduled activity and keep going. Awkward at first but gets easier as your friend group grows.
@Suzanne08053@sonyasupposedly Most decisions could not be made until age 21 (the move to age 18 as the age of majority is a 20th century phenomenon). So people in the past ALSO didn’t think teenagers were capable of making permanent life decisions.
@Suzanne08053@sonyasupposedly All those decisions were made by the parents, not the youth. The military was viewed as acting in loco parent parentis. Women who married/took vows were literally given to the custody of their husbands or the Church as the case may be.
@VPrasadMDMPH Hahahaha. I was a campus tour guide at UC Riverside, where 90 degrees is a nice day in February. I don’t remember ever cancelling tours for heat.
@Scott_Wiener Please exempt the Benicia and Carquinez bridges. Solano County is lower income and has very little public transportation - we can’t pay extra to subsidize BART that doesn’t benefit us
@FuckCarsReddit Point well made but little kids have always been leashed. Where do you think the phrase “tied to his mother’s apron strings” comes from?
@EmmaVigeland Don’t disagree on Breaking Bad but TOTALLY disagree on Mad Men! The writing for the female characters (especially Joan) is terrible! S1 Peggy whiplashes between super naive/no self esteem to sassy ball buster & then back again. Betty is the most believable & she is a stereotype
@bridgetmcgann I think we are agreeing with each other! But I do think the medical establishment’s reliance on one-size-fits-all advice and the only remedy to challenges being “do it more!” is a huge part of the problem.
@bridgetmcgann The only remedy for low milk supply is “pump/nurse more.” Doctors need to make individual plans based on harm reduction (or benefit maximalization) that recognize each woman’s individual circumstance and also her own need for at least 3 hours of unbroken sleep each night.
@eljest_ Oh I paid a premium for peanut butter when I lived abroad. It’s definitely a staple here. I also paid a ridiculous amount for candy corn in October 😂. Other than that, not really.
@missmayn Lol, my general rule of thumb for leftovers is a week and I’m not running around with constant food poisoning. Four days in a modern refrigerator is totally fine for most food.
Many people want to consume legal cannabis while socializing with others. And many want to do it while drinking coffee, eating a muffin or listening to music. There is no good reason from an economic, health, safety, or fairness standpoint that the state should make that illegal.
