This year, the US men’s football team has already made $13 million for reaching the knockout stages at the #FIFAWorldCup2022.
Splitting that in half, female players will receive $6.5 million, which is already more than what they were awarded for winning the past two World Cups.
The US women’s national football team is going to earn more money from the men’s #FIFAWorldCup2022 than it did when winning two previous women’s tournaments.
How and why is this happening?👇
After years of negotiations, in May 2022, the US soccer federation reached a historic agreement on equal pay. The men’s and women’s World Cup prize money will be pooled and split equally between the teams, among other things.

In #England, the Football Association banned women from playing on its football pitches in 1921. The ban lasted for 50 years.
Until the ban, women’s football was as popular – if not more – as men’s game. During WWI, women took over many of men’s roles, including in sport.
Some of the most well-known nations competing in the #FIFAWorldCup have banned women's football in the past.
32 countries will compete in the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup, but female players haven’t always been welcome in the world of football. 👇
In #Spain, women’s football was forbidden from 1935 until the Royal Spanish Football Federation acknowledged it in 1980.
The first official match was organized in 1983.
