Rajajinagara was established in 1949, to mark the 9th year reign of Mysore Maharaja Jayachamaraja Wodeyar, exactly 1 year after the establishment of Jayanagar.

Bangalore City Improvement Trust Board (CITB) — the predecessor to today's Bangalore Development Authority (BDA), The CITB was established in 1945 under the City of Bangalore Improvement Trust Board Act to systematically plan and develop new extensions amid post-independence urbanization pressures.

It was carved out of older villages, primarily Ketamaranahalli (or Kethmaranahalli) and Shivanahalli.

Interestingly, there was a "swap" of inaugurations: Jayanagar (named after the Maharaja) was inaugurated by Rajagopalachari, while Rajajinagar (named after Rajaji) was inaugurated by the Maharaja.
