This 12k number suggests demand declined by half, no extra fans gained ,in fact, this number suggests she lost fans. That’s unfortunate.

@cowboy_hive @30HRSZANE We shouldn’t pretend 12K for a major label effort is a triumph, given the level of visibility of the artists, some labels are playing the long game. However, some independent acts have quietly opened far larger with a fraction of the visibility or promotional budget.

@30HRSZANE That’s just the way pop stans are these days, low sales get clowned on the TL, if your albums not opening with 100k they’ll label you a flop and throw you into the ‘Khia asylum’. Rap fans too. Rap fans love to clown rappers when their projects underperform expectations.

@t_os1n @OpinionatedYute Still the 3rd biggest music market after the USA & Japan. Q3 is always weakest, you don’t need high sales to go no.1 at this time of year. You can look up the units the no.1 album sold every week of the year and around this time of year it drops the lowest. It’s quiet.

Cool, tap into whatever sounds you enjoy, but why feel the need to call it APop & market those Caribbean inspired songs as African when Africa has its own sounds?

I’ll listen to it for what it is, rather than fantasising about the more daring/vibrant/forward-thinking fusion of African music trends that we could’ve gotten

Tyla can make an album full of R&B fusion songs, just pick a different album title. The A*Pop title comes with the weight of expectations. Nobody forced this title onto her—She chose it.
