Early Birds Kiwanis Club fished with Shem’s Sander’s group Thursday. He invited several Decatur police officers to come and spend time showing kids their car during short breaks from fishing. Weather was great and fishing was good. Building communities one child at a time.

July 22, 2026 Early Birds help put on the “Dance Night” at Camp Grenada week long camp for children (ages 8 - 16) who live with diabetes. In connection with Camp Grenada Foundation, American Diabetes Foundation, University of Illinois, and SIU School of Medicine.

Mary Garrison, President and CEO of Heritage Behavior Health Center, was our recent guest speaker at our Early Birds Kiwanis meeting.  Mary updated the club on new location construction and rehab., latest innovations,  opportunities, challenges, and successes.

Guest speaker last week Bruce Nims. He spoke about two hiking adventures in Europe.

Then this week’s guest speaker was our very own Duane McCoskey who spoke to coffee. Members can now differentiate between ‘Arabica’ and ‘Robusta’, green bean and roasting styles.

Mt. Zion schools brought 180 students to be part of our club fishing program today. Several were first time anglers. There was Lunch for adults and kids at the park. 4 busses of kids joined us today.
