"We live by the conviction that acts of goodness reflect the hidden light of His holiness. His light is above our minds but not beyond our will. It is within our power to mirror His unending love in deeds of kindness, like brooks that hold the sky."
~ Abraham Joshua Heschel
We are one family, with the same Father, who makes the sun to rise and sends rain on everyone (Mt 5:45). We live on the same planet, and must care for it together. I renew my heartfelt appeal for unity around integral ecology and for peace! #LaudatoSi#SeasonOfCreation
Today, more than ever, we must return to the heart, the center of feeling and emotion, the locus of freedom. Though it includes reason, the heart transcends and transforms it. Only by returning to the heart can we undergo a true ecological conversion that transforms our personal and communal style of life. #LaudatoSi #SeasonOfCreation
this world made healthcare a commodity, education a debt trap, and housing a speculation market—then told you that poverty is a personal failing. they privatized survival and called it freedom.
As a psychiatrist, I can confidently say that Stephen Miller interviews are excellent teaching videos in malignant narcissism and sociopathy.
I'm not kidding: he meets criteria in seconds, not minutes.
And to the sailors who crossed their final bar today, we say
Eternal Father, strong to save,
Whose arm hath bound the restless wave,
Who bidd'st the mighty ocean deep
Its own appointed limits keep,
O hear us when we cry to thee
For those in peril on the sea!

The moment many of us we'll remember indefinitely, believers and not: Pope Francis praying alone in piazza San Pietro during Covid. "No one can be saved alone in the storm of History", he said.
At 9:45 AM on Easter Monday, Cardinal Kevin Farrell, Camerlengo of the Apostolic Chamber, spoke these words at the Casa Santa Marta:
"Dearest brothers and sisters, with deep sorrow I must announce the death of our Holy Father Francis. At 7:35 this morning, the Bishop of Rome, Francis, returned to the house of the Father. His entire life was dedicated to the service of the Lord and of His Church. He taught us to live the values of the Gospel with fidelity, courage, and universal love, especially in favor of the poorest and most marginalized. With immense gratitude for his example as a true disciple of the Lord Jesus, we commend the soul of Pope Francis to the infinite merciful love of the One and Triune God."

Pope Francis has died! 🕊️
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

3/3 A week later, JFK saw my dad at a reception and beckoned him to come over. He said, "Thank you." Dad told the story here: https://t.co/owdjFgWkYA @FCC
2/3 Dad told JFK he would. The next morning, he called the White House and told JFK's aide Kenny O'Donnell, "Tell the President he is lucky to have an FCC Chairman who does not always do what he is told."
When my dad, Newton Minow, was chair of the FCC, President Kennedy called him at home while we were having dinner. He was furious about an NBC news report and told Dad to cancel their license. 1/3
Those who’ve never clerked for or been a federal judge might be surprised how often this happens:
Judge to Govt: You are legally compelled to do this thing.
Govt to Judge: Perhaps, but we are incapable of doing that thing.
J: I’m hereby *ordering* you to do the thing.
G: We hear you and don’t necessarily disagree with your legal analysis, but that thing is still impossible.
J: OK then, identify for me the person most responsible for the thing and tell them I’m setting a show-cause hearing for them to explain to me why the thing couldn’t be done. And tell them they may be spending the night/nights if I’m not satisfied with the answer.
—>Supposedly impossible thing happens. Govt lawyer does or doesn’t get mildly rebuked for lying to the court. Life goes on.
Im nervous about sharing this. I finally finished my 2024 temperature blanket. I was hampered by house renovations and a frozen shoulder. It's big enough to cover a king-size bed, and I estimate it took me over 180 hours to complete.
Mita did as told. Asked for an online hearing.
In the zoom hearing which the cop also attended, case was dismissed without any fine. Just a friendly warning to always put opened booze bottles in the trunk.
Last week, Mita was told her student visa is revoked. Cos this 👆🏽
The potential adopter said he was going to sleep on it and make a decision tomorrow, then he headed straight to the pet store and asked all about what leash and collar I use, Sam's favorite treats and even what jacket size
I THINK WE HAVE A PRETTY GOOD SHOT HERE
I have worked for, with and against many big law firms. They are all majorly disproportionately white and male at all levels, and especially so at the top of the food chain. The notion that they let diversity govern hiring and promotion decisions is beyond laughable.
