Hydrologist by training, river roamer by love. Working at the intersection of hydrology, ecology, and community at the University of Melbourne. She/Her
Excited to share our scholarship as Indigenous biological scientists, just published in @J_Exp_Biol as a Centenary Article

Now, this is a Special Issue not to miss! If you work in human-nature relationships // relational values consider submitting to this SI in Ecosystems & People convened by the awesome Paula Novo (@SRILeeds @wateratleeds) and her colleagues: https://t.co/w7cLoW48Bi
Heya! This survey on flow-ecology modeling to support e-flows decision-making will be open for another week. Please consider taking it and contributing your viewpoint (and helping my PhD!).
Do you work in environmental flows?
Do you support decision-makers?
๐Please take our survey exploring flow-ecology models and e-flows decision-making!

@ProfRossatUC @SueJackson3068 I agree on an informed discussion of all options, but I can't help but think that the marketization of biodiversity with a strong dependence on private investment further entrenches capital-focused value systems that brought us into this mess.
For Ph.D. students, choosing a supportive mentor is 100 times more important than choosing a PI who is working in the top/famous institution. #hapyresearchers@AcademicChatter
Okay hit me with you fav Indigenous Anthropologists or Sociologists writing about Indigenous issues. I need to update my Global Indigeneity reading list for a few weeks where I haven't been able to find quite what I'm looking for. 1/2
This work will help us make recommendations to e-flows managers looking to implement context-sensitive modeling approaches and researchers developing flow-ecology models. And help out with my PhD research ๐

Can @UniMelb do better? Be the top of the Go8? ...37,000 from Feb 2023 perhaps? Which would still be a modest $711 a week for full time research workers who's rent/mortgage/cost of living has gone up enormously in the last year !
Dr. Avril Horne presenting on how we can change our e-flows approaches to embrace uncertainty and a lot of the work coming out of our lab at #AFSS2022. @AusFreshwater
Presented my work on the suitability of flow-ecology models for e-flows decision-making at #AFSS2022. Consider filling out the survey to help us better understand how these models are used and make recommendations for the future! @AusFreshwater

Just thinking today about how equity and justice should be a critical imperative within water management and engineering and how rarely it ever even gets talked about #waterjustice
