🦋 New paper out!
Dry moth specimens retain only 30-40% of their original body mass. We derived correction factors to estimate fresh weight from museum collections.

Really happy that a moth made it to the cover of @Nature! Thanks to my co-author Gunnar Brehm for this great photo 📸

🦋 What if we could automatically extract traits from thousands of Lepidoptera specimens?
We present LEPY, a Python pipeline for automated extraction of morphological and colour traits from Lepidoptera images!

Second PhD paper published!
Curious about mammal diversity patterns and their drivers along a tropical elevation gradient? 🐆🌳

This publicly available online talk is a little sneak preview of a paper that is soon going to be published from the ANDIV project, addressing the exciting #coldwaves in the South American #tropics ❄️
Are you curious what happens to animals if an extreme cold wave ("Friaje") hits the Amazon rainforest? Check out my talk at the Ecology and Evolution seminars @cassyniapp from @RSocPublishing

Exciting office times! We got back the sequences from all our tropical insect samples, from which many will be undescribed species. Had to learn how to handle that kind of data and how to create a phylogeny, but finally we got there - Aren't trees beautiful?! 🧬
@AbelsAntonia presenting her master's thesis on diptera diversity along the tropical elevation gradient at the AK Diptera meeting, this year at Norderney! Congrats, such nice work 👏🪰
All insect samples (almost 10,000!) collected along the tropical gradient @ANDIV1234 in Peru within a year of intense fieldwork are now on their way to the genetic lab for DNA #barcoding. Probably many of our samples will be new to the database. I'm very excited for the results!
After several years of working with them, I still find the #sphingids beautiful and very fascinating. Here are some #hawkmoths from #Peru, collected as part of the @ANDIV1234 sampling project, and deposited in the Phyletic Museum in Jena, Germany.

We are hiring! Looking for a postdoctoral researcher in ecoacoustic, to explore what soundscapes can (and can't) tell us about ecological health and function
