NORAD increases posture to support Operation ICE CAMP.
The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) is increasing the posture of its forces in Alaska and Canada to support the U.S. Navy’s Operation ICE CAMP 2026. NORAD will be conducting air patrols throughout ICE CAMP 2026 to reinforce the security of the region.
NORAD's mission is to ensure no threat approaches North America undetected," said Gen. Gregory M. Guillot, commander, North American Aerospace Defense Command. "That means watching every mile of Arctic sky, sea, and ice with discipline and vigilance and responding when necessary. We have the watch."
Operation ICE CAMP is run by the U.S. Navy in conjunction with other military branches, research institutions, and allied nations. It underscores the importance of joint and integrated operations in the Arctic, a region of growing strategic significance.

PETERSON SPACE FORCE BASE, Colo. – The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) detected and tracked two Russian TU-142 military aircraft operating in the Alaskan and Canadian Air Defense Identification Zones (ADIZ) on March 4, 2026.
NORAD launched two U.S. Air Force F-35 fighter aircraft, two F-22 fighter aircraft, four KC-135 tankers, one E-3 AWACS, two Canadian CF-18 fighter aircraft, and one CC-150 tanker to positively identify, monitor, and intercept the Russian aircraft in the American and Canadian Air Defense Identification Zones.
