In 1978, 533 films from the silent-film era were discovered in an old swimming pool turned hockey rink in Dawson City.
Among the films, some of which were thought lost forever, were news reels from various historic events in the 1910s and 1920s.
WCK is on the ground in Kharkiv after today's Russian attack.
Bombs struck a residential area of Ukraine's second-largest city, killing at least five people and injuring dozens more. Our teams are at the site, serving meals and snacks to impacted residents and rescue crews working through the destruction. Kharkiv has endured sustained attacks since the very first days of the war. Our teams will keep showing up. #ChefsForUkraine
A horrific strike by two Russian drones on a civilian vessel in neutral waters carrying corn and owned by Türkiye. Azerbaijani and Indian citizens were on board. As of now, unfortunately, we know that the ship’s captain was killed. My condolences. The fate of one other person is still being established. Eleven crew members were rescued, one of them injured.
Ukraine has repeatedly proposed concrete steps to de-escalate the situation and ensure security in the Black Sea. There have also been relevant proposals from third countries. But Russia consistently chooses terror and sinking civilian vessels instead of normal maritime navigation. Pressure is needed to restore global food security. And everyone who is genuinely interested in this must help.
Human's are causing the Earth's sixth mass extinction. 83% of wild mammals have already been pushed past the brink.
If nature goes, its taking us with it. No time to wait.

The Cornell rapists are not "young men with bright futures who made a mistake."
They are the next generation of wealthy, privileged men being taught that their money and status mean they won't have to answer for their actions.
Just off the coast of Deer Island, New Brunswick is Old Sow.
The largest whirlpool in the Western Hemisphere, it is the size of a football field and has existed for hundreds of years.
It also has quite an interesting history.
This is the story.

Today, I visited one of our lyceums. I spoke with the children about their studies, their interests, and their dreams. For me, these are always very special and warm meetings. It is nice to see children having the opportunity to study in person, spend time with one another, have direct contact with their teachers, play, and develop. I thank children for their love for our country, and their parents and teachers for raising them so well. We are doing everything to make the greatest dream of children – and of all of us adults – come true as soon as possible: to achieve peace. And it will definitely happen. Glory to Ukraine!
American AI Agents Fail to Breach Canada Defenses:
A cybersecurity report has now confirmed that autonomous AI agents attempted to breach Library and Archives Canada databases TWICE.
Our national defense frameworks held firm, proving that Canadian security infrastructure is FULLY capable of repelling highly sophisticated digital threats.
....but, the most alarming aspect of this incident is the digital footprint left behind.
Research firm Transluce has tracked the digital tactics directly back to OpenAI, making it EXTREMELY probable that this invasive software was American-made.
This attempted breach signals that Canadians will now adopt a new level of vigilance and response actions against an unpredictable and somewhat demented administration to our south, which now seems like visible aggressive moves against our beautiful sovereign nation.
While, for now, the complete details of the investigation remain classified, we are now left to ponder how everyday Canadians are reacting to this violation of our digital borders.
- Who is ultimately responsible for managing these continuous digital overreaches?
That remains up to Canadian authorities to know and decide on the actions of response, but let us be perfectly honest amongst each other as warrior Canadians, the broader geopolitical pattern CANNOT be ignored.
With now brutal economic friction, we MUST honestly confront a profound question that many citizens are now asking themselves:
......what other nation around the world has more motivation right now to infiltrate and crack our government infrastructure other than the one sitting directly south of our border?
We will find out and the perpetrators will be held responsible.
Attacks like this will NEVER go unanswered by Canada.
Justice will be served.
Canada will make absolute sure of it.

This is Ilya Honcharov. He was only 14 years old. Russia killed him in Vyshhorod, Kyiv Region on September 30 🕯💔
Ilya’s family had moved to the Kyiv region from Sumy to escape relentless bombings, only for a Russian missile to strike the building where they lived.
His parents, Pavlo and Olena, and his younger sister, Liza, survived. Ilya was trapped beneath the rubble and suffered fatal injuries.
First responders and all necessary emergency services are working at the site in Kyiv, where a Russian “shahed” struck an ordinary school. Fortunately, the children and teachers were in the shelter during the air raid alert, so no one was injured. A fire broke out on the school’s third floor; part of a wall was destroyed, and windows and doors were damaged.
Russian scumbags continue attacking life across our country, Ukrainian children, and our schools. Russia must be held fully accountable for this and receive a response to its strikes. We are counting on additional pressure from our partners on Russia and additional support packages for Ukraine. We are working to secure each of these agreements. I thank everyone who is helping Ukraine and Ukrainians!

Hi 👋 I’m Simon.
I’m a chemist with a PhD.
I spent years learning how science actually works.
Now I spend far too much time on the internet watching people confidently explain how it doesn’t.
So I write about chemicals, food, agriculture, medicine, AI and evidence.
I make complicated science simple.
I challenge claims that don’t survive the evidence.
And I explain what the headlines leave out.
Science is complicated enough.
The internet doesn’t need to make it worse.
Welcome.
Defenders Day is celebrated in Ukraine today.
Ukraine exists and remains independent solely because there are men and women who defend her. They are concrete names, fates, people. Glory to all who defend Ukraine. Eternal memory to fallen Heroes and Heroines.
This is Olha. She is a director of the animal shelter in Odesa. The russians sent a missile at her shelter, destroying it fully, burning alive ten cats and three dogs.
Olha managed to rescue five animals, pulling them from the fire. The others got terrified and hid, unfortunately.
Meanwhile, what do we read and see? While Ukrainians are fighting to survive this genocidal war with no pause and no break, some Western leaders are spending time talking about sanctions relief for russia and how to appease it through hostage diplomacy.
Morality and legality of such steps aside -- don't they understand that this appeasement only incentivizes russia to capture more of your people? And the number of useful idiots traveling to russia because "this is not their enemy" only seems to grow?
What a shameful time to live in.
