@SigmundBloom Not extension eligible yet. Burrow and Chase deals happened on similar timelines to other top guys at premium positions. They slow roll non-proven-elite or non-premium positions. Don’t think they’ll drag their feet with Mims.
@andreperrotta13@DarthNoobSaibot But if the extension restructures the option yr and was agreed to before the deadline, why not just sign the new deal instead of exercising an option that will just be torn up?
Not that it’s practically relevant here bc I doubt that’s what’s happening, but functionally curious
@andreperrotta13 Only “long term plans” scenario where this really makes sense is the extension being so close to done that exercising the 5YO is irrelevant. Like if it was ready to be announced tomorrow.
@andreperrotta13 This was also the first time (I think) we’ve heard the “if this new bone plug doesn’t work he’s done”. That was a big addition imo. Have heard degenerative condition (may shorten career) + new surgery needed (possible redshirt) -> adding “could simply never play” is huge.
@andreperrotta13 It’s absolutely exhausting. Did the same thing after the Ja’Marr/Tee extensions if I recall. “They didn’t make a good move they were forced to do what they did”
@flamcheesy I believe he doesn’t count as a compensatory FA bc the Steelers renegotiated his contract to accelerate his void years.
He also likely won’t make enough to qualify but wouldn’t matter if he did.
The deadline for all FAs to no longer qualify isn’t until after the draft I think.
@thecasualbengal@8bjohns8fitchrb@mpants60 To be clear - this isn’t intended to be a defense of how the bengals operate or to say they’re consistently doing enough to clear the “good enough” bar. But it does feel like “they’re missing their window” fuels a lot of the more aggressive criticisms.
@thecasualbengal@8bjohns8fitchrb@mpants60 Which is to say - how much do any team’s SB chances actually increase by going from “good enough” to “all in”? And what’s the EV of a decade of consistently good enough vs the all-in/reload cycling.
@JakeLiscow He took a “financial approach and aggressiveness” question and reframed it as if effort was being doubted. At best it was a strategic answer to avoid giving away plans. At worst it was pure gaslighting. Probably somewhere in between those two.
@maxtoscano1 It’s the “using your first on the replacement for the high priced guy you’re gonna let walk next year” that KILLS me. It’s drafting for need + burning a year. Even when they’re right about letting the guy walk (which they actually usually are) it’s such a self inflicted error.
