A professional association representing public service interpreters working in the Criminal Justice System. Retweeting does not imply endorsement or agreement.
An Ipswich court was forced to use a translation app to communicate with a defendant who speaks limited English after an interpreter failed to attend his sentencing hearing. https://t.co/FfnYajYq9E
Counsel at a trial involving an interpreter has just recounted a case whereby a juror, who spoke fluent Spanish, intervened to say the court-appointed one was not interpreting correctly and the jury had to be discharged. These are the kind of anecdotes I love as a court reporter.
If you missed this eye-opener on Channel 4 at 7pm tonight, you can catch up here. Serious Crime. But no justice. It’s short (9 mins), powerful, terrifying and true. If only the general public knew. #fundjustice
Honoured to have been invited to present my research into interpreter mediated police interviews to members of .@APCI1. Of course none of this would be possible with out the support from .@EmWilliamsCCCU, .@JenNormCCCU and not forgetting .@davewalshphd#researchintopractice
I am delighted to open nominations for the East Hull Community Champion Award to recognise the heroic efforts of our local community. https://t.co/j36GTJnfeC
@SarahForshaw1 There is no civil society without the Rule of Law. Tyranny or anarchy are not dystopian fantasies but a dreadful reckoning if Governments continue to deride us.
The justice system isn’t a party political issue. It’s more fundamental than that.
Successive govts have allowed our criminal justice system to rot for decades. It’s not a vote-winner with the public so it’s crippled by under-funding.
When it goes wrong? Chaos. We warned you.
My professor just told me that if we get a whiff of smoke it’s because another professor put the papers he was grading in the microwave to rid them of any chance of Corona Virus & then the papers caught on fire... I can’t make this stuff up people
