Coach Rusty Evans is the recipient of the 2023 Brian Snitker Award : : @APIVEO Youth Coach of the Year sponsored by @AkinsFordGA !!!

This year’s Brian Snitker Award winner is an impactful and dedicated coach, teacher, umpire/referee, and most importantly, father and husband.

Coach Rusty has been coaching for over 28 years at the youth, middle school, high school, and recreation levels. During his tenure, Coach Rusty has held teaching, coaching and leadership roles for 16 years in public schools and 12 years in private schools.

Coach Rusty has a true servant’s heart and has served the community in the following capacities-
-> SAMARITAN’S PURSE DISASTER RELIEF (via First Baptist Church in Newnan)
-> NCC (Newnan City Church) tornado clean up after the EF-4 tornado that hit Newnan, GA in March of 2021
-> Volunteering at “Bridging the Gap Breakfast” at Newnan City Church to serve the marginalized in our community
-> Teaching Sunday school and children’s church

Achievements/Special Recognition-
-> Former minor league (professional) baseball player
-> Inducted into the LaGrange College Sports Hall of Fame in 2010
-> Featured presenter at The National Athletic Directors Conference on two occasions (in Phoenix and Nashville)
-> Nominated by one of his 9th grade students for “TEACHER OF THE MONTH” at Heard County High School this year
-> Currently serving as the tournament director for several GRAND SLAM baseball events for youth in the community and surrounding areas
-> COACHED and MENTORED his 3 children:
-> Chase- professional baseball team (Mavericks- independent league)
-> Grant- LaGrange College Men’s Basketball Team
-> Sara Kate- 3 sport high school athlete (basketball, softball, and track)

As the Brian Snitker Award winner, Rusty will receive $5,000 from Akins Ford to donate to the children’s charity of his choice. Rusty has decided to donate the money to junebugs. junebugs is a an accredited 501(c)3 non-profit located in Heard County, GA. junebugs provides clothing, food, and financial assistance to support and strengthen the lives of vulnerable children and their families.

The Brian Snitker Award : : APIVEO Youth Coach of the Year is an award given to a youth coach who not only demonstrates strong character and great leadership; but is dedicated to the core mission of APIVEO, which is to teach kids about leadership and character. This award is named in honor of Atlanta Braves Manager, 2018 NL Manager of the Year, 2021 World Series Champion, and 6-time NL East Champion, Brian Snitker. Each year APIVEO selects a youth coach who invests his or her time, knowledge, and experience into his or her players and community, with the ultimate goal of equipping our youth to be impactful and significant leaders throughout their lives. John is a true servant leader! He is a regular 'buddy' on the Christopher League circuit. This season he has added "Rookie League" graduate assistant to his resume and a dozen 7-year-olds idolize him because of it.

The kid is at the park on a daily basis when not playing and watching his peers, playing wall ball, or just enjoying NYO. He's one of the most coachable kids we've ever had the pleasure of coaching. He works hard and he's respectful of coaches, umpires, and teammates.
