Honored to be chosen by District 5A-4 coaches for First Team All-District Outfield! Appreciate all my coaches, teammates, supporters and competitors. As Always…It’s Good To Be A Cardinal!
@RealCJ10 Don’t look at the tee when loading, that causes kids to over load in tee swings a lot. Instead look where the pitcher would be and find the ball as you land.
This is awesome right here! Lil Jonesy is a banger! There is nothing at all wrong with this swing. In fact….I’m jealous. Sinks into back knee and hip. Great balance post swing. Flat bat all the way thru the zone. Efficient, powerful, consistent swing. No pointers coming from me other than to keep feeding the passion! Young fella has a bright future with that swing. Well done….
Pops always used to tell me….if u load up, and I can see both the numbers on ur back, from the centerfield camera on tv, I’m pretty sure that ur struggling. Reasoning? Over rotation with ur load, causes u to be long and slow. There is a fine line to walk. We preach to load, load, load, but sometimes it goes to an extreme.
This young fella is doing just that! Good little swing. Mechanics look pretty solid. This may be as simple as tightening up his set up. Sometimes u start with such an open stance, that u over rotate to get back to what u think is square. As far as the bat wrap….it’s not that bad and squaring him up at address with a little less shoulder turn, could correct both problems. Hope this helps…..
P.S.- love his work out shoes!
@RealCJ10 Would love your feedback. Jax is a 10u ball player from Baton Rouge. At times he struggles with over rotation and bat wrap, so a big focus has been keeping his chest/shoulders relatively square and bat/hands in a more upright position during the load. Thoughts?
Ok…some things to dissect here. First couple swings he’s really hard on his stride foot. Head moves forward, balance is off. To his credit, he makes the adjustment and the next couple swings are much better. It’s great that he felt that….and fixed it on the fly!
One thing to work on….He has a pretty significant left arm bar. This is causing him to be “sweepy’ thru the zone. He’s gonna be behind velo as he gets older. For more power, kids tend to ‘reach back’ thinking that will help them. It doesn’t. Power comes from loading into ur back knee and hip and the hips and hands exploding at the same time. Put him on the tee. Get him to load into his back side and merely turn the shoulders, with less arm bar. Hope this helps….
P.S.- Go Braves!
Hello from Georgia! After watching this video, I originally thought this video was in slow motion….and that is not condescending. It’s actually a good thing. Young fellas gets his weight into his back hip and knee via the toe tap (YAAAAAY)! Bat is flat, sets it and lets it flow thru the zone with relative ease. Beautiful!
One thing to work on….he is swinging TO the ball and not THRU the ball, as evidenced by the slowing down of the swing post contact. He needs to have the same aggression post contact as he does pre contact. This will help those liners carry further (I.e… singles into doubles….doubles into HRs). The hand/eye is there…the base swing is there. Whoever has been working with him, has done a great job! Let’s take it to the next level. Hope this helps….
@RealCJ10 Hi Chipper! Could you check my son's swing? He’s 10yo (133cm). He’s been working on your advice: “loading into the back hip,” and his hitting has improved so much! He works hard in Tokyo. Would love your tips to get even better. Thank you!
There is zero wrong with this young fellas swing. Love everything about it. Starts with bat on his shoulder. Picks it up, sets it, giving him some relaxed rhythm…..stays flat a long time thru the zone, promoting consistent hard contact. Don’t change a thing! Well done…..Love it!
Hey @RealCJ10 , would love to hear what you see with my 9U Son’s swing! He thinks it’s awesome that you actually reply to folks on here and give great advice! He’s watched A TON of your AB’s from back in the day!
Smooth, sweet swing! Very clean….as long as he stays to the north (center). Bit of a closed stride, which locks up the hips some. Causes him to get hooky to the pull side. Im seeing some top spin liners to right. A bit more open stride (just to the right of 2B) will allow those hips to flow thru easier, but he must stay centered over his back knee in the meantime. This young fella has a great base under him with a swing that will translate to all levels. Great job yall! Hope this helps…..
Excelente mecánica de swing; demuestra solidez y potencia. Nada que agregar. También se lo recomendaría a @RealCJ10, quien realiza un trabajo extraordinario en el análisis técnico de swings.
I learned this drill from Rudy Jaramillo when I was with the Rangers. I'm trying to hit this pitch (down, in and deeper in the zone) up the middle with backspin. It forced me to be direct with the barrel out front and get familiar/comfortable with that location without muscling up.
Place the tee just in front of your stride foot on the inside corner. Drive the ball up the middle and if possible, to the opposite corner of the cage.
I loved the feeling of not fearing the inside pitch. It gave me the freedom to focus on the heart of the plate. I later got traded to the Yankees and saw Derek Jeter consistently hit this location to the RCF gap (in game), solidifying my confidence in this drill.
If you (or your hitter) can't hit this ball up the middle, it's likely that the shoulders are turning prematurely. It ain't for everybody, but it could be for somebody!
Thanks for watching/reading all that!
Ok Jake….this is good stuff right here and thank you for the correct angle of ur video, to address ur concern. Setup….fine. Hovers the stride foot….fine. The stride is a bit of a ‘dive’, meaning to the right of 2B. That’s ok too, not ideal, but ok. Jeter dove into the pitch. Acuna dives from time to time. What diving does, it cuts u off, locks up ur hips…makes it difficult to pull the ball freely. Even though he pulls this pitch successfully, he’s having to work really hard to clear the hips. And will probably struggle more as velocity goes up. I believe if he would stride a bit more to the left of 2B, as opposed to right of it, the hips would have an easier time clearing. And this may alleviate some of that added upper body movement ur speaking of. Other than that, young fella has a pretty solid swing….Keep Rakin! Hope this helps…..
Not a bad little set up here. Love the toe tap and the front foot down early. The left arm bar as the pitch is being delivered, concerns me. All but one swing, the base hit to center, the arm bar causes him to be out and around the rest.
The swing is a series of hinges….knees, waist, shoulders, elbows, wrists. Get on the tee and have him work on turning the shoulders to load, with out pushing the hands back so far that he locks the left elbow. Need a little flex in the elbow at launch for max results. Hope this helps…..
@RealCJ10 any tips for this 12u swing? Just a bit of footage from last Saturday. I feel like he is using only arms and not really using hips to harness power… but I am not a pro!!! Included a foul ball swing too for the heck of it (1st clip)
Balance is really the issue both ways. The righty swings….he’s lunging forward pretty badly. I can tell that he’s trying to keep that back leg bent, but he’s moving forward with the stride, so much so that he’s having to catch himself, post contact, from falling over. Slower feet, smaller stride, stay posted up in that back hip and back knee longer.
Lefty swing is a little better, but he gets a bit rotational with his swing to the ‘east’, meaning he is falling toward the first base dugout post swing. Not sure if the bat might be a bit too big or not, but it looks like he is swinging ‘to’ the ball and not ‘thru’ the ball as much as he should. Otherwise pretty solid swing. Hope this helps…..
Hey @RealCJ10, any tips to
Help my 12- year-old get moving in the right direction here towards the end of football szn? A little rusty, but trying to keep that back leg bent and prioritize low line drives, backspin, and oppo.
So cute…..yeah ur right though. Needs to load more into her back hip. She’s hitting from a stagnant position. Gotta rear back before you throw that punch. But let’s be honest….she’s 8! Keep taking her to the park, keep taking her to the cage, and keep feeding the passion. The hand/eye coordination is there. Tell her to keep raking! Hope this helps….
Well….I can see why he’s ranked #1. Not much wrong here and fun to watch. That’s a big fella with a short, powerful, but efficient swing. Very little head movement, short and quiet stride, back leg bent throughout, promoting good balance. If you want me to pick gnat crap outta pepper, and this is really small….he’s upright and upright hitters tend to lose feel for the outside corner. If he would hinge at the waist an inch or two toward the plate, it will help plate coverage. Hope this helps….
P.S. This is the best swing Iv’e seen on this app. Gonna have to keep my eye on him.
A two for one….nice! Ok….young fella has a nice swing. Rhythm in the hands….head down on the ball nicely. I don’t mind his base here. Back foot falling toward home plate is not a bad thing and it’s waaaay better than the alternative, AND, it means he never loses touch with the outside corner. Young lady is a little more mechanical. Also more rotational. Probably the reason for the rollovers. Like to see a bit more rhythm with the hands. Get her to relax her muscles and swing more NORTH, thru the centerfield wall. Remember…..tense muscles are slow. Relaxed muscles are quick. Kudos to mom and dad BOTH getting out there with the younguns! Well done….hope this helps.
Hi @RealCJ10 loved you since I was a kid as a switch hitter myself! Here's my two little lefties who named their stuffy after you when they got your baseball card. Working on a stronger base for my son (7) and not rolling over for my daughter (10). What do you think? Thanks!
Here’s some advice for you, Luis….keep putting that ball on the tee for that young fella! Feed the love of the game….he obviously loves swinging the stick. Well done
