Tonight I was glad to successfully amend Fermanagh and Omagh District Council’s response to the NI Autism Strategy consultation stressing the need for the Department to pursue greater early identification of Autism among girls, who far too often have fallen through the cracks.

Anyway, last week’s release of the second batch of 2021 Census Data for Northern Ireland means that we now, for the first time *ever*, have an actual number for how many Autistic People (both children and adults) currently reside in NI. [thread]

I fully agree with Dermot on this.

The disability employment gap is an unacceptable state of affairs, and it is a direct result of a discriminatory system that implicitly and explicitly excludes many disabled people from the workplace.

This can’t be allowed to continue.

Attended my first People and Communities committee tonight in Belfast City Council, where much of the conversation was around accessible play parks.

I questioned the council on how much weight accessibility has when scoring parks for refurbishment.
