@michael_merrick@SimBadd18@BarryPCotter ... want to follow an academic route to do so, even if schools believe the child shouldn't and apply pressure on child/ family to go vocational (to boost P8).
Essentially the opposite to some schools currently forcing an Ebacc for high attaining students.
@michael_merrick@SimBadd18@BarryPCotter I think the principle is sound, but with 2 in practice issues.
1) the vocational route needs to have value enough to allow later access to higher education. (Leeds Met wouldn't accept my BTEC - luckily Bradford Uni did)
2) there needs to be safeguards to prevent students who...
@adamboxer1 "No, I don't want you to do this science paper, I want you to do this [insert pointless busy work task]."
Leaving aside the diagnosability or otherwise of ODD, it brings me a chuckle and spark of joy each time!
@adamboxer1 One of the true joys of having a tiny AP cohort is unlocking the bespoke motivations. I have 1 student currently who presents Opp Defiance.. I get the joy of using reverse psychology: if they think I don't want them to do the work, they will do it for hours! Bliss.
@UnofficialOA There are lots of discussions to be had about the use, and role of prison.
In reference to some of those on "my side of the aisle": now is not the time to be trying to make these points.
The anger about this is entirely justified, understandable, and my thoughts with the victims.
@AdamAzor@StormTroop_Aim When Guernsey FC were kicked out of the FA Cup, was that a fine of ~ยฃ18million due to lost Europa League money? They should sue the FA.
Southampton haven't lost ยฃ200mill. They have lost the chance to compete for it. That is because they cheated for a competitive edge.
@SouthamptonFC Guernsey FC were expelled from FA Cup for fielding an ineligible player.
Should they appeal based on the loss of next season's Europa League income being disproportionate?!
Ridiculous argument.
"Right. We are about to force schools to find unfunded pay rises down the back of the sofa... what can we do to get schools onside?"
"How about we get Gemma Collins to do a promotional video?"
"Brilliant. What could go wrong?"
@rtalalay Your work - from Freddy, through Tank Girl, Who and now Good Omens - has brought me joy, even in dark times. I'm sorry this place has given you cruelty in a time of grief. Tonight I shall be watching Critters 4. A film I adore unironically.
@adamboxer1 I'm torn between the Schadenfreude of Burnham losing... and then the realisation of what that means for the future.
Its devastating that the objectively funniest thing would also be the worst thing.
@RogersHistory Changing language changes the framing. Dysregulation is a non-emotive way to describe a type of behaviour.
Naughty is an emotive word, which then let's people dismiss the individual as "naughty", which does nothing to fix anything.
Using non-emotive language allows less...
@adamboxer1 (Inspirational seems too twee in the circumstances, but it definitely makes me interrogate my privileges and want to do better in my own life, both at supporting my family and community and at challenging others when needed)
@adamboxer1 Thank you for sharing. I was really struck by the matter of fact tone, I hate that this is just day-to-day reality for you and your family.
The fact that you regularly go out knowing your safety is very really at risk to keep your community safer is wake-up call..
@rcolvile I didn't include the current data as you had already added it... I felt the historic offered additional context.
The change has certainly been sharper, but the "familiarity with hoops" does need to be accounted for.
@rcolvile There is a third explanation: the longer a framework is in place, the better equipped people are to jump through the hoops.
The framework changed in 2012, and we see a continual increase as familiarity improves. What we see now is climb from 2020 changes.
