@BurnetInstitute PNG & @majumdar_suman - Two excitable humans finding each other. After 2 1/2 years of phone & email conversations we had never physically met, so was a joy to find each other on the same dinner table in Vanimo!! Thanks Betty Matonge for such a lovely catch up!!
Australia now ranks #4 globally for total cases in the past 7 days. It ranks #1 for cases per million in countries with a population >1 million. Only Monserrat, Reunion and Cook Islands have greater cases/m. An Olympian effort Australia.
Above all, caring for older people is not a burden, it is a privilege. We should have the resources to do it well, and to make the final years of their life as good as they can be. They deserve it. We owe it. #ItsTime#AgedCareCrisis@anmf_federal@acnp_national@the_shb

Morrison:We don’t mandate ppl wearing sunscreen, so we won’t mandate masks.

Just a slightly better explanation of why, just sometimes, public health is not a personal choice
Emergency Medicine exams in 2022: There is an earthquake. You need to safely evacuate your Covid positive patients but there is an antivax riot outside with protesters throwing flares at healthcare workers. Also, you can’t really see through your goggles. Discuss.

Vale Dr Evelyn Lavau. For a little while last year I had the utter pleasure & honour to share a little desk area, enjoy some cheeky chats over coffee, and simply marvel at the impact Dr Lavau has had on STEM & health in PNG. Condolences to her family, friends & colleagues.
Vale Professor Evelyn Lavu - from @BurnetInstitute - & to appreciate the magnitude of her loss to the nation of PNG, please read the tribute from Prime Minister James Marape attached. It is a loss from which it feels we can never fully recover.

This pandemic (like all infectious diseases) exploits inequities in our society
Concerted, targeted measures are needed to enable + support those most at-risk
or we all remain at risk

"NSW is going to need tougher restrictions, something more akin to Stage 4 in Victoria to get this [Delta outbreak] back to zero in a reasonable timeframe, acc to new modelling," @CrabbBrendan told @normanswan@abc730. Modelling on https://t.co/a9YLlNjR07.
Devastatingly, the next global surge is on, fueled by Delta. Most countries have v dark days ahead as vaccination levels are low - Indonesia for example. #COVID19 vaccines are spectacular, even against Delta. We have to vaccinate the world with much greater urgency - priority #1
