I am starting to resign myself to the idea that the quality sci-fi TV we had in the 1990s and early 2000s, multiple excellent shows of Stargate and Star Trek, plus Babylon 5, etc. is not coming back for a while.
The entertainment industry is almost completely captured by cultural Marxism. The guiding philosophy behind most entertainment products now is deconstruction and inversion of everything that is good, true or beautiful.
Years of DEI-based hiring has put activists and ideologues in charge where artists should be working.
The new people see their job not as producing art, or at least decent entertainment, but ideological re-education. They fancy themselves to be on the right side of history. They are true believers, and they are not standing down, even now.
I do believe that the pendulum is already swinging back hard, from the civilization-destroying toxicity, racism and nihilism of the culturally dominant Marxist left. But for now, the Marxist left is not dead, not by a long shot. It is barely in hibernation.
The movement is currently counting on a Democrat winning the White House in 2028. They expect to recapture political power, and then finish what Obama/Biden started. They think that their final victory remains just around the corner.
The attitudes of the entertainment industry reflect that. The industry is not course-correcting after the disastrous failure of wokified former money-printing franchises like Star Trek, Star Wars or Lord of the Rings; it is doubling down. Products are made for a "modern audience" that does not exist, but that people in charge are hoping to create.
It sounds like they were trying to, but you can't make Stargate today. The heroes are the US military, and the villains are an ethnically diverse group of aliens in human bodies who posed as the various gods of human cultures in antiquity. The one group of aliens that also posed as gods but were benevolent rather than intrinsically evil - and the Goa'uld are intrinsically evil, as is made explicit - posed as the Norse ones.
That's why Stargate has remained untouched while every other franchise is defiled. Too much of the basic premise is fundamentally incompatible with modern Hollywood. There are too many uncomfortable implications.
Seems to me that higher ups got a whiff of what kind of show they were trying to make, and that show being Stargate, put the kibosh on it.
The "fresh new direction" they want to go with instead will have to be utterly unrecognisable. Stargate Universe is the direction Im sure they'd like to go in, but they already made that before the era of "modern Hollywood", and it was universally panned.
There's no getting around the good guys being the military and the bad guys being evil on a genetic level, so the whole premise is anathema. Stargate future-proofed itself, and with 15 proper seasons and 3 films, there really is no need to revisit it. I can continue, as I have for the past 30 years, just regularly rewatch what we already have. Because it's awesome.
This has been Hasan Piker’s worst week:
-Subpoenaed by the federal government
-Banned from the UK
-The candidates he brought on his stream lost their election
-Sex pest allegations come out
Please keep it coming
I loved Stargate SG-1 because it didn't condescend to the audience by recycling tired SciFi tropes.
This is my FAVORITE scene.
No negotiating. No half hour struggle session to see what the Replicators want. Straight action.
"We ARE Replicators"
"Ah"

@SandyofCthulhu The funny thing is that it would be almost impossible to guess which game because they have done this same song and dance so many times.
It's difficult to hate Electronics Arts as much as it deserves.
I never worked directly for them, but a small developer made up of close friends (as in they gamed at my house!) did a successful game for EA. EA paid for the development with advances. When the game was a hit, EA illegally withheld the royalties, obfuscating the matter by saying they had to "repay advances first" (despite the fact that the VERY FIRST QUARTER'S ROYALTIES would surpass all the advances combined). The small developer had been living paycheck to paycheck (EA advances aren't too big), and had planned to use the expected royalties to fund itself for more great games.
Well, without the royalties, the small dev was in immediate danger of bankruptcy, and they didn't have the cash to hire lawyers. If they hired a lawyer on spec, their counsel would face off against EA's huge team of a**holes who could draw it out forever. In hindsight, perhaps they should joined with other groups angry at EA, but they went under. Their company dissolved, and my friends found other jobs, scattering around the industry.
All the upcoming cool games they had been working on were destroyed by EA's short-sighted greed. If EA had instead funded them, then EA could have had a whole stream of successful games. But no, to get a few hundred thousand they murdered a goose with a golden egg.
I guarantee you've heard of the game they made, and may have played it. It was a big enough hit to have action figures made. Not giving the name here because EA is spawned from the bowels of Hell. That's just one single example.
The percentage of Republicans who believe that gay and lesbian relationships are morally acceptable has plummeted from over 50% in 2022 to 35% just four years later. GOP support is now at its lowest level since 2011.
I think we all know why this is happening.
The “I personally disagree, but adults can do what they want” mindset we all adopted over the last 10 years ended up blowing up in our faces. There is no such thing as a stable equilibrium that emerges if we just chant the Progressive incantations that “love is love” alongside our fellow libtards.
We thought that after Obergefell that this messy “social issue” would be put behind us. It was too much of a distraction. Don’t you know that we need to be talking about debt and taxes?
But the exact opposite ended up happening. Accepting gay marriage didn’t temper the Left’s appetite for eternal revolution, it emboldened these people. They immediately started trying to normalize transgenderism and turn “Pride Month” into the new Progressive Ramadan from which there was no opting out.
The Biden administration marked essentially the culmination of this cultural revolution. At that point, it became obvious to the Right that the “culture wars” weren’t a distraction. They were THE issue that would only continue to ratchet up and agitate for yet more power and wealth to be redistributed to the Left’s various client groups in the name of diversity, equity, inclusion, tolerance, and progress.
marriage as an institutional concept has no value when two things are simultaenously true
1) a man faces financial and legal (custody) consequences for leaving his wife
2) a man does not physically own his wife
there is no reason to get for marriage to exist as a consideration for a man if both these things are true, it is purely for the woman. it is submitting complete and total control to her with her submitting nothing of her own, this is a recipe for psychological manipulation and abuse. the man is signing up to become a lifelong rape slave
number 2 is particularly important, you fuck your husband or you don't get a husband. you can have a boyfriend and maybe a father to your kids, but you under no circumstance are entitled to your own workslave bound to you by a ring. if number 2 was not present, then maybe number 1 wouldn't even be as big of a deal at least it would encourage people to stay monogamous. but with number 2 present as a clause number 1 is just insanity
marriage must be reformed as a concept, it can not just be some performative display. it has to actually mean something and its terms have to consider what incentives there are for both parties. if this can not be done, perhaps monogamy was only a temporary fluke in the development of mankind and never how human intersexual arrangements were meant to be in the first place. i like to imagine that is not the case though... imagine...
The Sikhs stabbed Henry Nowak and then called the police themselves. The British government is so cucked that foreign invaders felt comfortable committing a murder and then calling the police to come get the body. And the police acted like the bitch slave dogs they are.
Sometimes I forget how "normies" see the world. There are people out there that believe "consumers just decided to switch to streaming and give up physical media".
Youtube lost money for a decade before it made a profit.
Spotify lost money for 17 years.
None of this is accidental or organic. People didn't "choose" these systems. They outright rejected them for literally decades while these systems operated at a loss that made competition with them impossible, funded by people who wanted to change the world into what we have now. A system where you own nothing, consume whatever is offered on-demand and nothing else, and you have no privacy or anonymity.
Netflix killed Blockbuster with by-mail PHYSICAL MEDIA at a loss. The entire time they were eating Blockbuster's business they were losing money. After Blockbuster died, Netflix phased out physical media and I remember the severe backlash, but the choice was streaming or nothing. Still many (maybe most) people just cobbled together private collections from bargain bins and garage sales. Netflix continued to lose money....10 BILLION dollars of loses in the 2010s even after Blockbuster went out of business.
Understand the truth, that a cabal of global institutional investors funded companies that nobody wanted for literally decades at a cost of untold billions of dollars....until there was NOTHING ELSE LEFT for you to use.
