Sept 12th update:

Wastewater daily inf estimate increased to 600k this week. Positivity and ED data have both peaked and begun to retreat, and I expect wastewater will soon follow.

Bad news: Today the CDC revised last week's wastewater levels *upward* by 5%. The updated forecast will put the estimated peak closer to Sep 13 at 1.3 million New Daily Infections.

Here's the interim updated forecast (still waiting on Biobot data).

A couple notes:
1) Notice that from the 6th to 27th, the central estimate is pretty similar at 1.2-1.3 million. The national peak is often arbitrary.
2) Focus on the big picture. Transmission is high right now. Many people will get COVlD this week, next week, and the next several weeks, including on the back end of the surge.
3) Next week, CDC could revise estimates downward. The peak could shift back to the 6th. Sounds strange, but this does happen. Real-time data quality near peaks is often lower. Turns out, people are out sick.
4) Why the forecast is looking pretty realistic: Transmission is dropping across the south and west. It's not rising everywhere. That indicates peaking nationally.
5) Why the forecast could be an underestimate: This is the worst vaccine access we've had in 5 years. Uptake has been low in prior years, but even small changes at a large scale matter considerably.
6) Mask up, test yourself and others frequently to avoid forward transmission, move meetings remote, use air purifiers, and get a booster if you have access.
