Maybe use some of that Microsoft money to upgrade the Warzone server tick rate, 20hz is pathetic. Servers need to be at MINIMUM 60hz, especially for the speed of gameplay and TTK.

@NETDUMA None of this matters when their server tick rate is STILL 20hz. With that in mind you actually have an advantage with a poor connection. Activision needs to upgrade their Warzone servers to at least a 60hz tick rate.

I get asked so often how to break into the games industry, so here's the advice I usually give 👍😀

Posting this here so I never have to answer this question again in the future:

1) First, understand what field you wanna end up in. Are you an artist? A programmer? A designer? If you don't know yet, download Unreal Engine or Unity, try to make a simple game prototype and see what aspect of game development you enjoy the most.

2) Nobody cares what school or university you went to. What matters the most for getting hired is:
a) Experience
b) A sign of exceptional Talent

You need either one or the other and ideally both. Therefore, focus on what you can do to convince your future employers that you'd be able to pull your own weight from day1. You want them to come to you, not you to come to them.

So, have a great portfolio, make a great reel, put up some papers you wrote, just try to become the best in the world at what you really love doing and present that to the world!

3) You need to know which environment best suits your individual qualities. Some people are very social and are eager for a job in an office where they can mingle amongst other folks - in that case, a traditional studio will be your best bet. There should be plenty of studios out there now that offer remote work as well for those of you who don't need or want other people around you all the time. God knows I fit the latter 😂

4) Don't be too enamored by the big name studios just cause. When I grew up, I always dreamed of working at Blizzard some day. I reached that goal when I was around 24. And it was great, I loved Blizzard. But AAA clearly didn't fit me - and that's okay! You have to find out for yourself what kinda environment would make you the happiest, where you could learn the most and be the most productive and it might just not be the one that makes those games you love so much. There's a ginormous difference between playing games and making games!

5) Don't ever be a dick. Nobody wants to work with dicks. While that should be self-explanatory and some might call me out on this cause I sometimes come across like a dick (people that know me know how I tick), but always keep in mind that this industry is small and once you get a dick'ish reputation, you'd be surprised how quickly word spreads. Just always be nice and treat others the way you'd want to be treated. Think about your colleagues and their needs even when you're not at work, try to be empathetic. I love the people I work with, even if I don't always agree with them.

6) Don't be too ambitious. I once hired a person who came straight from University who literally asked every few months for a raise and why that person isn't 'a lead' yet without even knowing what a 'lead' position even entails. Let your work speak for yourself and ask for what you're worth, but your goal should be to make yourself invaluable to that team you're working with, then good stuff will happen anyway because your team relies on you! Just remember: Julius Caesar was ambitious, said Brutus. And look what happened to him 🤣

7) Always learn as much as you can about every aspect of game development. This field is so complex that you will never be able to stop learning. The more you know, the more valuable you'll become cause the more problems you'll be able to solve. Making games boils down to problem solving.

8) Never be afraid to just ask people questions. I've been doing this for 20 years now and I still constantly have to ask questions, cause this stuff we're doing is incredibly complex. Not necessarily hard, but complex. People who love what they're doing will be all too happy to tell you more about it. We only ever learn from making mistakes and asking questions, so do both.

9) Don't ever, ever, ever let other people tell you that you can't do this or that. Nothing in this world is all that hard to do if you do it step by step. But there are plenty of people out there who will happily tell you that you're too stupid, you're too old, you're this, you're that. Fuck all those people, even if they might be your teachers or your relatives. If you're willing to roll up your sleeves and really do the work, you can achieve anything. Ultimately it just always boils down to what you're willing to invest your time into.

10) Ideas are worth nothing, execution is everything. A ton of youngsters want to get into games because they think they have the most amazing idea for a game. And who knows, you might! But let that passion for your idea become your motivation to learn how to execute. Please don't try to sell other people on your ideas. Everyone has ideas, some even have great ones. But very few people can execute upon their ideas and nobody has time to care about yours. So learn the latter.

11) Don't do it for the money. Money should always be a side-effect of success and never your main driver. I never once met a person who was really great at something whose main motivation was to make a boatload of money. Money is too shallow of a thing to focus your life around.

12) Work your ass off. I know it's not popular to say that these days, but... it's true. You'll be competing against some of the most talented people in the world. If they're willing to put in the work and you're not, you will lose, simple as that. That's why it's so important to figure out what you love doing, cause otherwise every fiber in your body will tell you to quit. Do the thing you'd do even if you wouldn't get paid, otherwise you'll give up. Not because you're weak, but because you haven't found your one true love yet.

And that's about it, that's all I can think of for now! 😆🤣

In passing the Scottish Hate Crime Act, Scottish lawmakers seem to have placed higher value on the feelings of men performing their idea of femaleness, however misogynistically or opportunistically, than on the rights and freedoms of actual women and girls. The new legislation is wide open to abuse by activists who wish to silence those of us speaking out about the dangers of eliminating women's and girls’ single-sex spaces, the nonsense made of crime data if violent and sexual assaults committed by men are recorded as female crimes, the grotesque unfairness of allowing males to compete in female sports, the injustice of women’s jobs, honours and opportunities being taken by trans-identified men, and the reality and immutability of biological sex.

For several years now, Scottish women have been pressured by their government and members of the police force to deny the evidence of their eyes and ears, repudiate biological facts and embrace a neo-religious concept of gender that is unprovable and untestable. The re-definition of 'woman' to include every man who declares himself one has already had serious consequences for women's and girls’ rights and safety in Scotland, with the strongest impact felt, as ever, by the most vulnerable, including female prisoners and rape survivors.

It is impossible to accurately describe or tackle the reality of violence and sexual violence committed against women and girls, or address the current assault on women’s and girls’ rights, unless we are allowed to call a man a man. Freedom of speech and belief are at an end in Scotland if the accurate description of biological sex is deemed criminal.

I'm currently out of the country, but if what I've written here qualifies as an offence under the terms of the new act, I look forward to being arrested when I return to the birthplace of the Scottish Enlightenment.
