Human-Gated DAgger: The Learning Loop That Turns Robot Failures Into Improvement | Axis V2

The Interesting Part of @axisrobotics V2 Human Intervention Isn't the Goal

In Axis V2, the human isn't supposed to replace the robot. The human is there to correct the exact part the policy doesn't understand.

And that small difference matters more than it might seem.

To understand why, we need to look at human-gated DAgger, the learning approach behind Axis V2's post-training process.

Here's the basic idea.

A robot policy learns to perform tasks from demonstrations. But even a well-trained policy can struggle when it encounters a situation it hasn't learned to handle.

For example, imagine a robot trying to pick up a block. It approaches the object, but its gripper misses the right position.

Repeating the same attempt won't necessarily solve the problem. The robot needs useful feedback from the situation where it failed.

That's where human-gated DAgger comes in.

The process looks like this:

🔹Policy: The robot attempts the task autonomously.
🔹Failure: It reaches a state where its current behavior is no longer reliable.
🔹Targeted correction: A human takes over and makes the necessary adjustment.
🔹Retraining: Useful correction data is added to the training process.
🔹Stronger policy: The updated model may handle similar situations more effectively next time.

In #Axisrobotics V2, the contributor hands control back once the robot is ready to continue. The goal is to correct the weak point, not manually perform the entire task.

Why is that useful?

Traditional behavior cloning teaches a robot to imitate demonstrations. But when the robot makes a mistake of its own, it can enter a situation missing from its original training data.

DAgger helps address this gap by collecting corrective feedback from states the policy actually encounters.

Instead of only teaching the robot how to do something correctly, the process can also teach it how to recover when things go wrong.

But there's an important catch: not every human intervention is useful training data.

A correction might contain unnecessary movements, pauses, or actions the existing policy already knows how to perform. Simply copying the entire human-controlled sequence can introduce noise instead of improving the model.

That's why validating and selecting useful corrections matters just as much as collecting them.

The bigger idea behind Axis V2 is a feedback loop the policy reveals where it struggles, humans provide targeted corrections, and those corrections help shape the next training cycle.

Human input remains important, but the objective is to make that input more targeted not to keep humans doing the robot's job.

The real question isn't how often a human can take control. It's whether the robot can learn from that intervention and handle more of the task independently afterward.

That's the part of human-gated DAgger worth paying attention to.

Primus × AllScale: Selective Privacy for On-Chain Payroll

Privacy doesn’t mean hiding everything.

For institutional on-chain finance, the harder question is:

What should stay public and what shouldn’t?

Public blockchains get their value from verifiability. Anyone can inspect the ledger and independently check that a transaction happened.

But imagine payroll.

A company may want everyone to verify that salaries were paid, while not exposing every employee’s salary to the entire internet.

That’s where the @primus_labs × AllScale Private Payroll test gets interesting.

In a September technical validation, four test payroll payments were settled on BNB Chain.

The key distinction:

• Payment records remained on-chain
• Salary amounts were processed in encrypted form
• The decrypted test results matched the payroll data
• The company and employee wallet addresses remained observable
• Timestamps and transaction hashes also remained visible

So this wasn’t “make the whole transaction disappear.”

It was more selective:

Public where verification matters.
Private where exposure creates unnecessary risk.

That distinction matters because public blockchains are transparent by design. Even when addresses are pseudonymous, transaction patterns can reveal relationships and sensitive financial information.

FHE, or Fully Homomorphic Encryption, takes a different approach to privacy than simply moving data off-chain.

The basic idea is that computation can happen on encrypted data without first revealing the underlying value.

In this payroll example, that means the blockchain can still record the settlement while the actual salary figure isn’t stored as plain text for everyone to inspect.

But there’s an important reality check.

This test involved only four sample payments.

It doesn’t prove that every enterprise payroll system can operate this way at scale, or that performance, costs, access controls, integrations and exception handling are already solved.

And privacy itself has layers.

Hiding a salary amount doesn’t automatically hide wallet relationships, timing patterns or other metadata.

That’s why I think the more useful question isn’t:

“Is blockchain transparent or private?”

It’s:

“Which information actually needs to be visible, to whom, and for what purpose?”

That’s a much more practical way to think about confidential on-chain finance.
