"I was just doing my job," akin to "I was just following orders," is at the same time an admission of guilt (you did the act) and poor character (a moral failing due to fear, cowardice, or laziness).
It is not a defense.
This quote from Thoreau, written nearly 200 years ago, was probably one of the most influential on my young mind when I first read it. In fact, I would say it eventually led me to the Exit and Build strategy and the idea that we can "vote" with our actions, not just with a piece of paper (or the press of a button).
"Cast your whole vote, not a strip of paper merely, but your whole influence. A minority is powerless while it conforms to the majority; it is not even a minority then; but it is irresistible when it clogs by its whole weight. If the alternative is to keep all just men in prison, or give up war and slavery, the State will not hesitate which to choose. If a thousand men were not to pay their tax-bills this year, that would not be a violent and bloody measure, as it would be to pay them, and enable the State to commit violence and shed innocent blood. This is, in fact, the definition of a peaceable revolution, if any such is possible."
Every “profession” we are culturally demanded to respect are precisely the ones that deserve it the least
Police
Military
Doctors
Teachers
There is a reason they have to tell us
It's a lot easier to tell yourself you're a hero than admit your profession is the #1:
Perpetuator of crime
Institution of terror
Cause of death
Peddler of State propaganda

@themerit0crat@MAVMCQ@soldyr_lartug There could be something beautiful in the placement of a tattoo in an area where only your partner ever sees. But this only applies if sex is reserved for people you'd be willing to share the deepest aspects of one's self with
@themerit0crat@MAVMCQ@soldyr_lartug I do tend to like the look of some realism tattoos. That being said, I couldn't put something on me permanently unless it deeply captured an intimate part of who I am. But if it does accomplish that, the last thing I'd wish to do is broadcast it for every schmuck to see
@StefanMolyneux Experience of raising your kids and seeing them turn out alright despite your fears that lead to most of the sharp corrections teaches you to not sweat the small stuff
There is no right without the assuming the corresponding duty associated with that right. If you cannot understand, or unwilling to assume the duty, you have no rights
e.g. I have the right to self defense, with the duty to not initiate violence on others

@ovensoflove@jpthor@THORChain It is always good practice to have an initial receive wallet, then transfer in several different amounts to a primary wallet over a period of days
@beinlibertarian It is optional... Most everyone unknowingly ops into the system by obtaining (mostly fraudulently by their well meaning parents) and using their SSN
The real problem is most "employers" have deep throated the propaganda that everyone that works for them must have one
@TheTinMenBlog How does someone get literally dragged out of their house to kill or be killed, not shoot their slave masters (i.e. their commanding officers) at first opportunity? The draft would end pretty quick if enough conscripts were willing to defend themselves
@jpthor Instead of creating the same pools on THORChain and Maya, what is preventing you from creating routes through each in a single swap by incorporating RUNE/CACAO pools? e.g. BCH>RUNE>CACAO>ZEC
This would multiply the number of chains available without the syphoning from each other
"Before this happened to me, I used to have the mentality that if you were involved with Child Protection Services, you must have done something wrong. I never realized they were just called, and they could just swoop in and take your child based off allegations whether they be true or false. All they need is a little bit of suspicion and that's it. Your kids are gone."
Kristy Anderson brought her medically fragile son, Oliver, to Boston Children’s Hospital seeking answers, but he suffered strokes and serious complications while in their care.
Instead of addressing these outcomes, the hospital accused Kristy of abuse, prompting intervention by Massachusetts Department of Children and Families and separating her from her children.
Oliver remains in state custody despite his health issues continuing outside of his mother’s care. These facts raise serious concerns about the validity of the allegations and reflect a devastating failure of both the medical and child welfare systems.
