Yesterday, I met with fishermen from my district who finally got to catch red snapper en masse for the first time in over a decade — only for a Washington judge to shut it down the very next day.
That’s not okay.
We’re fighting to reverse this and Make Fishing Great Again.
Yesterday, ASA joined partners on Capitol Hill to advocate for improved South Atlantic red snapper management and greater access for recreational anglers. We're committed to securing a 2026 season and advancing science-based management that moves beyond one and two-day seasons.
Fishing is more than a hobby in eastern North Carolina; it’s part of who we are.
Great meeting with @asafishing and the hardworking team from Grady-White Boats to discuss the importance of protecting our coastal economy and the communities that depend on it. From boat builders and tackle shops to marinas, tourism, and small businesses, recreational fishing supports thousands of jobs and keeps our coastal towns moving.

Happy National Fishing and Boating Week! Minnesota’s stunning lakes and waterways make it the perfect place to cast a line, launch a boat, and create lasting memories with loved ones. I hope you have the chance to enjoy some time on the water this week!
As we celebrate National Fishing and Boating Week, I'm proud to recognize the tremendous impact recreational fishing has on Florida's economy and way of life. In Florida's 12th Congressional District alone, more than 210,000 anglers contribute $443 million in fishing-related spending, supporting nearly 3,000 jobs, generating $459 million in economic activity, and contributing $30 million in state and local tax revenue. This year, I'm also encouraged by the American Sportfishing Association's inaugural Million Pound Challenge - an ambitious effort to remove one million pounds of trash from our rivers, lakes, beaches, and waterways. By protecting our natural resources today, we can ensure future generations continue to enjoy the great outdoors and the world-class fishing opportunities that make Florida so special. Thank you to all the anglers, conservationists, and outdoor enthusiasts who help support our economy and preserve our waterways. Happy National Fishing and Boating Week!

The House passed the bipartisan Florida Safe Seas Act (H.R. 3831), banning shark feeding in federal waters off Florida. ASA supports this step to help address shark depredation and looks forward to working with the Senate to get it across the finish line. https://t.co/5TZwXWwKug
