@halimertugrul I see your point. I do think they're support shifts dramatically without male primogeniture defense. But as a fan I still believe they would accumulate numbers through political maneuvers. Assuming they still had their 30 years of tense court politics before Viserys death.

@MlleTeapot And if Aegon was still born Alicent would've pushed Aemond. The text says it's believed Otto brought Alicent to KL with the intent of marrying her to the King. The Hightowers wanted the throne and if they had to kill M!Rhaenyra to get it they would've. It's WHY I love them.

@MlleTeapot All old houses are not described by GRRM as clever. He harped on the Hightowers intelligence to reinforce that while their ACTIONS are rooted in law their MOTIVES are not. Which is why he told us how much Daemon & Otto hated each other before Otto suggested Rhaenyra.

@MlleTeapot Otto is the one who suggested naming Rhaenyra the heir in the first place. The Greens believe in their claim wholeheartedly yes. But they did not care about male primogeniture. Not saying they would've pushed a daughter but the Hightowers r described as clever & proud 4 a reason.

@turtlestrashs Well you're correct bc this is an alternate timeline. My assertion is assuming Aemma still died with only male Rhaenyra as their heir. The council still would've insisted he married bc one heir is not enough.
