Burying bottles with $20 notes in the desert would reduce UE and raise inf. Legalizing the drug trade or trade in organs would reduce UE and increase inf.
What you need to explain is why forcing economic activity through real estate is the best way to achieve these goals.
.@1RossGittins avoids the central question.
Further action (QE, negative rates, $A depreciation, etc) would reduce unemployment and raise inflation.
There is good research on this.
The RBA has not explained why the costs of action are more important than lowering unemployment.
The First Fleet and the Myth of Monoculture
The idea that the First Fleet brought a pure “British monoculture” to Australia is a myth.
While mostly from the British Isles (English majority + ~141 Irish, 33 Scottish, 9 Welsh), the fleet also carried:
• At least 14 North Americans • 12+ people of African descent (from Africa, West Indies, America & beyond) • Others from France, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Sweden, India & more
Researchers have identified ~235 non-English First Fleeters. Real diversity from day one.

I consider @Keir_Starmer a friend and I'm thinking of him on what must be a very tough day.
Serving in public life is a tremendous privilege but politics can also be a harsh business.
When the time comes for Keir to leave Downing Street, he can be proud of the contribution he has made to the country he loves and to the Labour Party that he led back to Government in 2024.
I'm grateful for the opportunities we had to work together to strengthen our AUKUS defence and security partnership, support the brave people of Ukraine and keep children safe from the damage that social media can do.
I wish Keir, Victoria and their children well with everything the future holds.
When you mass import fighting age men from violent, misogynist cultures, you put every single woman at risk.
It's not even possible to be left alone while being with your children anymore.
This is a deliberate European-wide policy. They want us all to be in danger.
She isn't being lashed for singing without hijab. She is being lashed for singing.
It is illegal for women to sing in Iran.
Why? Because the sound of a woman's voice is considered "provocative" and therefore "corrupts society."
The whitewashing of this regime by western activists and podcasters is a true testimony to how morally distorted the western world has become.
You have to pinch yourself to realize that in their moral universe, these are the “good guys” who have only been “provoked by western imperialism.”
If you truly believe in multiculturalism. In the idea that every culture is equally valid and true. You MUST create space for this. Values and practices are part of culture.
What argument is their to exclude this cultural practice? And now you see the problem.
@DrCameronMurray Which is what makes me think the key productivity reform would be a decent sized recession. Not something anyone wants but they come whether you want them or not.
What a mess. This patch creates all kinds of opportunities for gaming, distortions, and arbitrary ad hoc kinks in the tax schedule. One can’t unscramble an egg. Time to start over with a clean sheet of paper. https://t.co/SZr3AsiOIR
@PeteWargent Some people don't want to take tough decisions for fear of being scolded or name called and others don't believe those tough decisions need to be made at all. Come on England!
Economists set themselves too easy, too useless a task if in tempestuous seasons they can only tell us that when the storm is long past the ocean is flat again.
Looks like population growth has returned to pre covid rates. Population is now roughly what was projected pre Covid. So much noise over yet another macro econ stat that went up then down through and beyond Covid.
Diversity is a strength of modern Australia.
And no matter what language you speak, or faith you practice - every Australian deserves to feel safe, respected and valued.
Great to talk with locals in South East Melbourne today.
@isitcausal@cremieuxrecueil@Keir_Starmer@MayorofLondon Treason isn't a crime in the eyes of this calibre of person. They've been fed a particular story of their nation and their people which makes them feel that anything which can undermine those things is great.
God speed the end of this solpsistic self loathing.
This looks quite emotional. Not a good sign in an economist.
Is there any actual evidence that the Howard years caused productivity to fall.
I doubt it.
What a lazy economic vandal:
Debt was "paid off" by being the largest taxing govt in history; plus
Selling off (privatising) huge volumes of assets; plus
Record low spending on infrastructure.
Many of the reasons which have such horrible productivity today
This is a great line to take. Go out to the Australian public and tell them about all the obligations Australians are failing to fulfill to foreigners. This is exactly the time for it. Make it loudly.
The Govt is patently in breach of s87 of the Migration Act. This will have to be resolved either by the courts or an Ombudsman investigation. https://t.co/6T5niGzK8W
Even in trying to be empathetic these people are still utterly condescending. Instead of trying to psycho-analyse groups like some amateur anthropologist just talk to them. As if they were fellow humans.
"It's just a protest vote." Great, what are they protesting?
Diversity: The highest political virtue.
Divisive: The basest political vice.
Both come from the same latin root words to turn apart.
You can't have one without the other.
Does no one else see this self-contradiction?
This is the kind of thing that was said about the Jews in the 1930s.
It is not hyperbolic to say that degrading an entire culture leads us to a very dark place. Reform are playing with fire right now trying to stop themselves being outflanked by the extremists of Restore.
