The failure of the Federal Government to sign the 2022 renegotiated agreement is what has been prolonging strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities and other university unions.
This is because the Government has failed to pay earned academic allowances, promotion arrears, fractional payment of salaries to staff, unsettled pensions, and gratuity schemes.
The only authority that can order this closure apart from the Senate of each institution is the Federal Ministry of Education and the order will be given on behalf of the visitor to all the universities, which is the president.
