@NASA I once stood in line at a book signing he was doing but I brought a newspaper section I had saved from Apollo 8 for him to sign. It stopped the line! He flipped thru every page and could not have been nicer. One of my true treasures. He represented the best of this country.
@kelsieswrites What you feel is normal; recognize the pain for the depth of your relationship The pain would be less only if the relationship was less Embrace the pain as a sign of the love Your blog & speaking at Chris’ Service show you ARE an incredibly strong person Your strength will shine
@AOTUS11_Shogan@USNatArchives Thanks for helping speed my request for military records; received yesterday. One was for a Navy pilot who bombed Guam on July 17 allowing the soldiers in this photo an easier time. That pilot was KIA 3 months later. I shared both with my 98 yr old mother. It made her cry.
@AOTUS11_Shogan It would be great if you would share with those of us waiting for records what the plan is; specially how much longer will the wait be. I made a request in Sept 2022 and am still waiting. Thank you for your efforts.
@nut_history Braves v Cubs at Wrigley ‘71. Braves 4-2. Henry Aaron hit HR off Ken Holtzman. Went with neighbors. Box seats row 4 behind visitors dugout. $4/seat bought walking up that day. Watched games on WGN on b&w tv. Walked up the steps and saw Wrigley in color for the first time.
@nprscottsimon@BeschlossDC Bears parade was the day before. The day of Challenger they were supposed to be at the White House with Pres Reagan. Pres Obama had a make-up for the team in 2011.
@BeschlossDC I was at work. A co-worker had earphones on and asked, “Did you hear…” She told me. I doubted she had it right. She insisted. I went to the director’s office (never did that before) because I knew he had a tv. He turned it on. It was on all the channels. Unbelievable.
@Chicago_History John Denver. Twice. Picture the “typical” John Denver yes, but he added in some songs from an album not out yet which became hits later. And he played a few rock and roll covers as good as the originals. Solid 3 hour performances.
@HeidiStevens13 Our first was born in 1988. Wife sent me to the grocery store with not only a list but a map. Had the items listed in order by aisle and which side of the aisle and which shelf (hi mid low). Had sizes too. Yup, I still f-ed it up.
@EricJHyland@NavalInstitute My mom’s cousin was one of the 123 too: Lt Edward W Larkin Jr KIA 10/19/1943 while piloting his TBM Avenger over Manila Bay along with his crew. It was his 60th mission. He was posthumously awarded the Navy Cross. Eddie was 25 years old.
#OTD in 1963, Lt. James Flatley began a series of unarrested full stop landings and unassisted takeoffs on USS Forrestal in a KC-130F Hercules. It set the record for the largest and heaviest aircraft ever to land on a carrier. Written on the fuselage was "Look Ma, No Hook".
@911NENA911 Agreed. But don’t stop at the technology. More important is the people under the headset that operate the technology. Training. Compensation. Recognition. Raise the bar on hiring skills and advancement opportunities. FIRST first responders deserve to come first.
