Two great movies about how a climate of authoritarianism can inspire people to build communities of mutual support but also inflame a spirit of violence in otherwise peaceful people.
promising young woman is a shittier version of gone girl. saltburn is a shittier version of the talented mr. ripley and theorem. wuthering heights is a shittier version of wuthering heights
@notebookninja_@cinnomng1rl Mmm that’s a good point too. I’m not familiar with this book series at all, so I wasn’t aware it wasn’t created by a Black person or even a POC. 😕
@twinkletoezzes@cinnomng1rl Ooo yikes 😬 Well I do indeed see how this would be selling out now. I feel no sympathy for rich people neglecting to do proper research and based on how methodical his career has been, it’s more likely that he knows and just doesn’t care. 🥲
@1dntlikeacidrck@TxtSwift@Boudaued Taylor Swift’s equivalent is who she associates with, how she presents herself and the issues she chooses to comment on and not. She’s an opportunist that’s silence speaks louder than any tweet.
wuthering heights is a novel about English class divisions, the psychology of rural Yorkshire, an intense gothic drama about cross-generational trauma, the social fallout of imperialism. But thanks to pop culture it's somehow a "love story" which it actually barely is at all
@8C0QV0tfGP89468 @meghannn01113 @Boudaued Like I said in the other comment, double entendres — you want to take this for face value because only believing this interpretation keeps her in a good light.
@torturedtrack29@Boudaued Why would she admit to writing about his exes as onyx (who are all Black)? And she literally is talking about her and Travis’ pasts in the song.
@TxtSwift@Boudaued What has she done that makes her awful and not Taylor Swift? I’m not a Kayla Nicole stan, so I won’t pretend like she’s perfect, but Taylor Swift has done a lot of questionable shit throughout her career that could classify her as “awful” as well.
