In a fight against #climatechange, the aim of #treeplanting goes beyond just planting trees in the ground. It’s about securing the future. At its core, tree planting helps protect the environment and human life. Most importantly, it’s about #sustainability.

2. THE BUGANDA ROYAL PALACE (LUBIRI)
As part of our maiden Hop-On Hop-Off journey around Kampala, we made a stop at the historic Kabaka’s Palace also known as Lubiri in Luganda language, located on Mengo Hill - one of the original hills that shaped the city.
This palace was established during the reign of Kabaka Muteesa II and today serves as the administrative seat of the reigning King.
At the entrance of the palace burns a fire that is never allowed to go out - a powerful symbol of the Kabaka’s life and reign. It is said that this flame only extinguishes upon the passing of the king, making it a quiet but profound reminder of continuity, legacy, and the living spirit of the kingdom.
But like many historic places, this site also holds a more difficult past.
During the regime of Idi Amin, parts of this palace grounds were used as detention and torture chambers - a dark chapter in Uganda’s history that remains deeply significant.
To understand the history of Uganda, you must immerse yourself in the history and heritage of Buganda kingdom.
Have you ever visited the royal palace before? What stood out to you?

1. THE BAHAI TEMPLE
Constructed between 1958 and 1961 and officially dedicated in 1961, this temple was the very first Bahai House of Worship built in Africa.
That alone makes it incredibly special. It stands as a symbol of unity welcoming people of all religions, backgrounds, and walks of life.
The temple has an intentionally unique design which consists of nine sides and a central dome symbolizing of completeness and unity.
It’s also surrounded by 52 acres of beautifully maintained gardens which offer not just breathtaking views of the city, but also a rare sense of peace.
It’s located on Kikaaya hill easily accessible through Kisaasi or Kyebando
