Court update!
Today 10 environmental defenders who were arrested in April 2025 & later released on bail appeared in court. It’s unfortunate that even today their case was not heard due to absence of state prosecutor. The defenders a still strong to challenge climate injustices.
Engaging students on their human and land rights is key to protect their livelihoods. Uganda’s population is dominated by young people and #legalEmpowerment empowerment is key to stop human & land injustices that is increasing in Uga. We prioritize legal empowerment in our work.
Communities affected by #EACOP sharing energy they are using. They continue to depend on dirty fuels including paraffin, candles ,charcoal among others. Few of them use solar for lighting & charging phones. They say electricity is expensive & request for subsidized solar products.
Ahead of TotalEnergies AGM, activists in Uganda gathered outside the company's headquarters in Kampala in solidarity with the EACOP project-affected people. The contrast between corporate gain and community pain couldn't be sharper. #KickPollutersOut#StopEACOP#StopMozGas
We can’t keep silent when @TotalEnergies' continue to destroy our livelihoods. Imagine a controversial #EACOP which is a $5bn pipeline wont even power communities in Ug & Tz .Guess what 5bn would deliver if invested in Renewable Energy.

Legal recognition alone cannot protect the Amazon from environmental destruction.
In this piece for @MongabayOrg Network members Paulo Ilich Bacca and Luisa Fernanda Bacca argue that, while court rulings that recognize the rainforest as a subject of rights are important, these protections risk staying symbolic without also granting real governance authority to Indigenous Peoples. Shared governance of the Amazon must be implemented in practice as well as written in law.
