This is Eritrea. This is the reality that an entire nation has endured for decades under dictatorship. This is not just a picture of people waiting for water. It is a picture of a country where countless families struggle every day to meet their most basic needs. Clean drinking water is not something people can always take for granted. Reliable electricity is limited. Free access to the internet is heavily restricted. Freedom of speech does not exist. Freedom of the press does not exist. Free and fair elections do not exist. For millions of Eritreans, living a normal life has never been possible.
While much of the world has moved forward, Eritrea has remained trapped for decades. Entire generations have grown up without freedom and without the chance to decide their own future. Young people see their dreams disappear before they have the opportunity to pursue them. Families are torn apart. Parents grow old without seeing their children again. Children grow up without their mothers or fathers because they have fled the country in search of safety and hope.
Fear has become part of everyday life. Many people are afraid to speak openly, afraid to ask questions, and afraid to dream of a different future. Poverty continues to shape daily life. Access to water, electricity, information, education, and opportunity remains a struggle for many.
No one leaves their home, their family, and everything they love without a serious reason. No one risks crossing deserts and seas for an adventure. People flee because they want what every human being deserves: freedom, safety, dignity, opportunity, and the chance to build a future without fear.
The people of Eritrea deserve the same basic rights as everyone else in the world: clean water, reliable electricity, access to information, quality education, meaningful work, freedom of expression, justice, and the right to determine their own future. An entire nation deserves to live with dignity, not in fear. Freedom is not a privilege—it is a fundamental human right.

It is the voice of mothers who lost their children, fathers who never saw their sons and daughters return, young people whose lives were stolen by indefinite national service, and families forced to flee their homeland simply to survive.
For over 30 years, Eritrea has been ruled through fear, repression, and propaganda. There is no free press, no free elections, no independent judiciary, and no freedom of speech. Thousands of political prisoners have disappeared without trial. Families still do not know whether their loved ones are alive or dead. Many Eritreans describe the country as one giant prison, where fear follows you every day of your life.
Even after escaping Eritrea, many say the fear does not end. They report facing intimidation, pressure, and surveillance by networks that support the regime abroad. The dictatorship tries to extend its reach beyond Eritrea's borders, attempting to silence those who speak the truth.
Yet there are still people living safely in democratic countries who choose to defend this dictatorship. They enjoy freedom of speech, democracy, and human rights while supporting a regime that denies those same rights to its own people. They organize festivals, spread propaganda, and attempt to paint a false image of Eritrea while thousands of political prisoners remain behind bars and countless families continue to suffer.
No festival can hide the prisons. No music can silence the cries of those who suffer. No propaganda can erase the graves in the desert, the lives lost in the Mediterranean, the disappeared, or the generations robbed of their future. Every family that has been torn apart tells the real story of dictatorship.
History has taught us one lesson: no dictatorship lasts forever. No lie survives forever. No regime built on fear can defeat the truth forever. Eritrea does not belong to a dictator. Eritrea belongs to its people. One day, justice will replace oppression, truth will overcome propaganda, and freedom will defeat fear.
The world must stand with the people of Eritrea—not with dictatorship, not with propaganda, and not with those who defend oppression. Freedom is not a privilege. It is a human right.

Since 2001, Eritrean journalists have disappeared into prisons simply for doing their job—telling the truth. Many have never been charged, never been given a fair trial, and their families still do not know whether they are alive or dead. This is not justice. This is dictatorship.
A dictator fears journalists because the truth is more powerful than propaganda. A free press exposes corruption, abuse, and oppression. That is why independent media was destroyed and journalists were silenced. But imprisoning journalists will never imprison the truth.
The world must not remain silent while innocent journalists disappear behind prison walls for decades. Freedom of the press is not a crime. Speaking the truth is not a crime. Demanding justice is not a crime.

When the government decides how much of your own money you can withdraw or how you are allowed to use it, it is not about protecting the country; it is about maintaining power and keeping people under control. Ordinary families, small businesses, and young people who dream of building a better future are the ones who suffer the most.
In Eritrea, the banking system is tightly controlled by the state. There are no international banks, almost no modern banking services, and digital payment systems are virtually nonexistent. Internet access is among the lowest in the world, making it even harder for people to start businesses, invest, or participate in the modern economy. How can a country develop when its citizens cannot freely access and use their own money?
When economic freedom is replaced by control, hope disappears. Young people leave the country, families are separated, businesses struggle to survive, and the nation remains trapped while the rest of the world moves forward. A country does not become stronger by controlling its people. It becomes stronger when its citizens are free to work, create, invest, and build a better future.
The people of Eritrea deserve freedom, justice, and opportunity—not a system where the economy is used as a tool of control. No nation can prosper through fear, restrictions, and isolation. A nation grows when its people are trusted, empowered, and free to shape their own future. Eritrea deserves economic freedom, development, hope, and a government that serves its people instead of controlling them. Enough is enough.
