Lately being a rational person = being that one kid in a horror flick who notices the adults are slowly morphing into zombies. All the adults and most of the kids scoff and say you’re imagining things. But you’re just a kid, what can you do?
Stop talking and build a fort I guess
@SolidEvidence What a thriving creek! That’s great.
But it seems like it should be more than a hobby. Wildlife/environmental agencies, park districts… seems like this could be important and useful routine monitoring.
@925mlbfan My neighbor has a year round tree in the apt hall that she decorates seasonally when she gets around to it. She just took down the Halloween stuff and I am in terrible suspense waiting to see if she’ll do Thanksgiving or go straight for Christmas.
@aspiringpeasant … “starving children” impetus to social upheaval -> better society seems to be, well, quaint.
The Church seems quaint, it’s grifting evangelicals accumulating flocks now.
And Dutch merchants back then were at least clever and resourceful, unlike modern billionaires. I dunno
@g0t_86d The thing about chickens is how beautiful they can be. I didn’t know that until a neighbor (in my suburban condo!) put a coop on her patio. Six chickens, all different and pretty as gems
(Probably an $ hobby keeping good-looking varieties vs ranching, and climate wasn’t an issue)
@dieworkwear @NBASempreCurti That red photo is straight out of my 70s high school.
(Minus the logos; designer logos were extremely uncool. Buckle should be marijuana leaf :)
“Elephant bells” were all the rage for a year or so and of course creatively patched denim had been in style for a long time.
Yep. I tried my relax routine from my 20s - crochet and radio drama. I had good mental health back then despite difficult times (early 80s, hard job, hard college). Paid no attn to politics; an hour a day creating something + *fictional* drama.
It’s working! I’ve relaxed a lot.
@TheKentAcorn I think the craziness here will settle down after the US election. Elno bought Twitter to push maga politics and will likely stop most of his desperate micromanaging. Plus those bluecheck bot swarms cost money and a lot of them will probably go away until the next election cycle
@AndrewPBrooks Just fyi, I have spent a lot of time these past terrible days in America just gazing at your beautiful print on my wall. Art heals. Thanks.
I keep thinking of an old friend, immigrant from Iran to US:
“Things there were changing slowly, then they changed very quickly”
…and two generations later, nothing has changed back.
@radiofreefresno Please come to blue sky!
If you do, I’m atreegrowsincal dot bsky dot social
If we don’t cross paths again :( I wish you all the best.
(My conscience is eased by blocking every advertiser on here 🔨 as I work to curate my feed over there)
@JoyceCarolOates@mattsheffield A friend’s wife went suddenly evangelical and started believing that Catholics were not only non-Christian but influenced by Satan. She soon divorced her (non-practicing) Catholic husband.
Then came to her senses about the cultishness of it all but too late, wrecked her life.
