Heavenly Father, we give You the highest praise, Hallelujah, You are worthy. Thank You for another day; it’s a day of purpose. Lord, as we continue to reflect on Your goodness and faithfulness towards us, our heart rejoices and we are confident that no weapon formed

I hope this encourages someone. Sorry it will be a bit long. And I promise, no mnemonics or acronyms for once!
The month of January itself can be long😒
Cash gone and flown away with the Christmas chicken &New Year Turkey; so many bills to be paid with the overwhelming reality of a financial albatross standing before one (both literally and figuratively)…
..on a January morning bearing today’s date, many years ago, I was invited for a job interview while still a medical student. I was both broke and broken as I was by my mum’s bedside, taking care of her as she was on admission in the hospital while my colleagues were in school.
Throughout my undergraduate school days, I couldn’t afford to buy any textbooks and so had to make photocopies of relevant pages, read outdated but very useful books in a sparsely filled school library or borrow books from friends. I depended on the charity of my friends (God bless NCCMDS, Wolexy, e-doc ,the VSA crew &others 🙌🏽) for feeding and accommodation.
I sometimes used to wear borrowed, patched 👔 &👞with holes. I couldn’t afford to pay school fees after my first year in medical school. In addition my mum was in and out hospital for most of my undergraduate training while the family was separated and dispersed.
Still shed a tear or two 😭 , even after so many years, when I remember this. No teenager should ever have to go through this but sadly though, this is the norm rather than the exception. Many times, I would escape from school for a few days, just to find solace and comfort from all I was going through..
..But I knew success in this interview would change my life. So I dusted myself up, begged for transport money(equivalent of 10p in 💰), borrowed oversized clothes& shoes (as I was so skinny) and went for the interview.
I did this because I believed in my potential and I had hope for a better future. Sometimes, hope is all we have to hold on to. It serves a beacon for us to rise above our struggles and challenges. Let it not be said that we didn’t “go over and beyond” the call of duty, despite our limitations. I would rather fail having done my possible best rather than fail due to lack of effort.
I look back now and see how my circumstances have changed,to the day, since that seemingly cold and bleak January morning. Hope is that ray of sunshine that can pierce even the darkest clouds.
Don’t give up hope, because if my story can change based on hope and belief, you can also make it too. It’s just a matter of staying focused because of “time and chance working for them all”.
Please feel free to share this. And please note, (the right) education is not a scam!
Let’s keep inspiring each other ✌️
When we got married 6 years ago, and went on our very small honeymoon miraculously paid for just days to our wedding, I learnt a vital lesson from my husband that has sustained us on this journey but hear the gist first.
