Our reaction to any new study is either “I don’t believe it” or “I knew it”...
A NEJM trial in ICU pts w acute resp failure found that mucolytics (carbocisteine & hypertonic saline) don’t help. My ICU rounds line “mucolytics are useless” may need an update: “and possibly harmful”
Our elderly patient who came in with recurrent UTIs was difficult to catheterize.. his POCUS showed a BPH the size of a tennis ball and it was managed accordingly.
Safe to say he's now in a better shape and recovering gracefully.

Always happy to teach the fresh residents and doctors the know-hows of CPR and approaching unresponsive victims and patients.
Training others and believing in them is what makes the profession a beautiful thing.

I bumped my leg coming outta the CT room & now I have a swelling the size of a football on my tibial shin.. it's so bad the ortho bro on call was actually concerned and felt bad for me 😭
So we admitted this psych patient into the ICU and they kept growling & speaking in a different tongue, & it was some kinda conjuring or the exorcist horror show that it scared the charge nurse into an MI & she had to be rushed to the cath lab..
I'm not even making this up 😭
@IM_Crit_ I like the fact that the patient stayed a week on the vent. I can see by the vignette that his physiological burden needed that.. usually early extubating such patients is what messes them up even more.
Keep those nice ICU stories coming please 😁
