Please see this important open letter from MP Heather McPherson regarding the threat that the India-based Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh network poses to Canadian public safety.

The RSS and its network have fought violently for decades to relegate non-Hindu minorities in India, including Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, and many others, into second-class citizenship.

Its affiliate groups have longs operated in Canada, often as tax-exempt charities, while sending money back overseas for operations.

Its Chief Leader, Mohan Bhagwat, is also scheduled to make his first visit to Canada on August 31st. Canada must not let him in to rally RSS members and supporters around their hateful ideology.

The RSS's violent and hate-based network has no place in Canada and must be wholly banned from operating on Canadian soil.

The Legal Centre for Palestine is aware that the Board of Directors of the Waterloo Undergraduate Student Association (WUSA) is refusing to implement a Boycott and Divestment resolution approved by a clear majority of students at WUSA's Annual Members' Meeting earlier this year.

This incident follows a longstanding pattern of repression in Canadian higher education institutions which has escalated to new heights since 2023. Just earlier this year, McGill University attacked the McGill Law Student Association for passing a referendum to implement amendments to its bylaws affirming an academic boycott of Israeli institutions, calling the referendum 'antisemitic' and supporting legal action to block the amendments.

This unprecedented wave of interference in student democratic participation, based in anti–Palestinian racism, must end. Students must have a say in the policies of the institutions where they study, engage in free exchange of ideas, and pay tuition.

The decision of the WUSA Board of Directors will be examined.
