I am a man of faith but follow no religion, progressive in thought but independent in politics, dedicated to my country, my community, my friends and my family, served my country (USN), served my community (Police/EMS/Psychotherapist) and continue to do so in my elderly years (Crisis worker, Special Olympics Coach), fully embrace the freedoms enshrined in the United States Constitution, strong believer in due process for all, empathetic to those I love, like and like less, supporter of immigrants and immigrant causes, community advocate for those with autism, and fully embrace the tenants of diversity, equity and inclusion.

I grew up in a German immigrant neighborhood but in a multi-cultural city. We all got along, despite our cultural differences, politics and/or religious beliefs. There were difficult times, particularly in the 60s. Those difficulties continue through today. Yet, we work things out. There are great things happening here. We are known for our cultural gatherings and festivals.

Most of us were first generation Americans. Most of us were first generation migrants from within. None of the people I hung out with thought we were better than others. Of course, there were those who did.

Is Milwaukee a "sanctuary city"? We always have been even before I was born. We have also been called one of the most segregated cities in America. I think history will dispel that belief. Indeed, there were German immigrant neighborhoods as well as Italian, Sicilian, Irish, African American, Asian American, Hmong, and others. It is who we are. We are still one community.

Me thinks the era of tribalism is beginning to fade. The younger generations will have none of that, at least from what many are telling me.

So, despite the hate arising from certain policial groups, I have faith in the resiliency of our country to, once again, overcome the politics of the day and continue who we are.

Weekly family dinner: grand salad constructed with locally grown lettuce and from my garden with cherry tomatoes (my garden) incorporated with on orange memosa dressing further layered with Greek olive and goat cheese, fresh orange slices, sauteed red onion and mushrooms, with grilled beaded pork chop.
