New working paper on the substitutability between wind & solar and dirty (fossil) electricity generation: an important factor for emissions mitigation. I find a higher elasticity of substitution (close to perfect) than previous empirical estimates. 1/8

Why the different results from previous empirical analysis? One reason is sluggish capital adjustment: previous approaches using regressions of first-order conditions (prices) probably underestimate the elasticity, while the supply-side approach I use likely overestimates it. 7/8
