#N545rn M7 @ProfKlaudia My job is as an admissions coordinator and bedside RN in an acute rehab. Moving forward I intend to educate myself and my coworkers on how current policy and potential changes in policy affect how and why we provide care the way we do.
#N545rn M6 @ProfKlaudia Fee for service rewards providers for seeing more patients/doing more procedures. Bundled payments reward improved quality of care while discouraging unnecessary interventions. I have seen bundled payments used to push patients before they are ready, tho.
#N545rn M4 @ProfKlaudia In California, 88% of the 337 patients who chose physician assisted death (PAD) in 2018 were white. The reasons for this are complex, but this statistic suggests that access to PAD is more limited for people of color.
I live in a border state. I appreciate the need to enforce and protect our international boundaries, but this zero-tolerance policy is cruel. It is immoral. And it breaks my heart.

#N545 Despite having been legalized in 8 states & DC, patients interested in physician-assisted suicide face access hurdles at multiple levels. The process requires time as well as cognitive and financial resources many patients at the end of life do not have. @ProfKlaudia M1
#N545rn@ProfKlaudia M1 I followed @azpha, a non-profit organization in Arizona that is dedicated to improving the health of Arizonans through education, advocacy, and influencing policy.

Health literacy is influenced by many factors. Education level, socio-economic level, and race are just the start. We must consider how our patients learn best and present medical information using more accessible formats (one to one or video vs print).
Nurse leaders are ethically bound to recognize when patients are treated unethically and to report unethical practices. Nurse leaders influence change in the situations and are obligated to ensure each patient’s rights are upheld. M3 #N541rn@Prof_JStein
Differences in health do not happen by chance or by choice. They are rooted in patterns of racial segregation, redlining, and highway projects that have contributed to disparities in health and opportunity. #SXSW
According to the CDC, 6 to 9 out of every 100 pregnant women died as a result of pregnancy. This statistic, as of 1997, was 7.7 maternal deaths/100k births! #N541rn@pcjefa M1 Press

My father received care from the Amarillo VA 180 miles from his home for 2 decades! Access to medicine in rural areas is a challenge for public health! Thankfully, access has improved and he now only travels 10 miles to be seen. #N541rn
