The human mind can reason to the existence and nature of something it cannot see. In physics this would include things like gravity. In metaphysics it includes things like the immaterial intellectual soul. If you deny the latter, you have no basis to sustain the former.
@MinooFramroze@MatthewSitman@PeterAWBlair Hardly! Mr. Sitman wondered what a British style biography might mean. To me, an American biography is more journalistic. A British style bio is more perceptive of atmosphere and the ironies that texture someone's life.
