Emotional regulation is vital to healthy relationships, all types of success, and lasting health. The reality is though, that being and staying regulated is a skill that needs to be taught and honed, as life will be difficult, and there will be challenges.
Today I was talking with my 7 year old son about gratitude, and I was reminded that it is not natural to reflect and show or express gratitude. It truly is a practice, but it is a habit that can tranform who we are as leaders.
Today was the beginning of summer school, and it involved combining two elementary schools in our district for 20 days. The team that made it work is amazing, and without great people, doing amazing work, for the right reasons…kids suffer. So blessed to work with these people!
I was reminded today that great successes and celebrations occur when great teams communicate with one another. On the other hand, when teams don’t communicate frustrations mount and success oftentimes halts.
Talking with a staff member today about trauma informed practices. We discussed how with some students, what we do doesn’t seem to work. However, a lot of the time they are like bamboo, a lot is happening under the surface and you will see it later when they explode with growth

In a conversation today with an educator, they said that they strive to create a space that is welcoming, safe, and allows for errors while still loving students. When asked how do you create that space, they said “you have to be those things first.”

Just finished this book by @rubyKpayne really powerful stuff! I really enjoyed the sections that described what it meant in the classroom and what we could do about all the things our students bring with them!
