A member of the @KnightHennessy Scholars program 2018 cohort is honored for @Boomitra , his carbon sequestration startup.

The PhD student in Will Chueh’s lab, (on leave), wants to tackle big problems, so the company he founded addresses the climate crisis. Boomitra’s technology measures, reports, and verifies CO2 sequestration in soil, so that farmers and ranchers get paid for the carbon offsets from adopting yield-raising, climate-friendly techniques.

The @EarthshotPrize-winning startup has helped farmers remove 10 million tons of CO2 from the atmosphere. Moorthy hopes to double that soon and distribute $200 million by 2025 to marginalized farmers, especially in developing economies.

Moorthy knows that change often begins with an uphill battle, but he stays motivated by the pursuit of solutions that could move the climate needle on a “planetary scale.”
