Although the Prophetic revelation came to an end with Khatam al Anbiya (the seal of the prophets), yet a common man’s yearning for a deep seated spiritual commune with the Divine always remains there and that’s why we pray “Ihdina Sirat al Mustaqeem” i.e, O Allah, show us the straight path. If guidance is to be bestowed by Allah, then it has to be definitely received by us and it is this bestowal by Him and reception of guidance by us which underlines the continuity of this universal yearning for a spiritual communion with the Divine. If Allah shows us the path by virtue of His Divinely ordained apostolic mission, still “the path” needs to be seen by us and our active participation in seeking and seeing the path is a testament to the fact that spiritual communion is not a sided affair. This urge for seeking and seeing will always remain there in the backdrop of our religious psyche even if the revelation proper (wahy) came to a halt.
Allahuma ihdinassiratal mustaqeem.
