The NRA buys off Congress. No action on guns.
The oil industry buys off Congress. No action on climate.
Insurance companies buy off Congress. No action on health care.
The list goes on...
Money in politics is the root of our dysfunction.
What I'll always remember is how PM Jacinda Ardern's leadership lead to New Zealand banning assault rifles and military-style semi-automatic weapons in just SIX days after the Christchurch mosque attacks. No greater example of what going beyond thoughts and prayers looks like.
So moved by @emilyschmall's thoughtful piece on the tensions that young Indians often have to navigate between modern aspirations and the heavy, unchanging expectations of family. (Also, Sanjay Van is a really special place!) https://t.co/itngH5N3Rw
“People call drag shows a danger to distract from where the threat truly lives: in our homes, in our legislatures…
Trans people are demonized precisely because it prevents society from examining its own wounds.” -

Taxing billionaires and raising wages are not radical ideas. What's radical is watching over 60% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck while one man has the means to acquire and tank an entire social media platform in less than a month.
Twitter has helped bring down governments. Helped put hundreds of thousands of people in the streets around the world, risking their very lives.
Are we telling ourselves that there’s nothing we can collectively do to oppose one billionaire?
Have we forgotten our power?
Twitter has been a lifeline for activists and advocates around the world. It’s where people connect, lift up and collectively fight against powerful entities. At this moment, I can’t help but think about what post Twitter world would be like. Hoping for the best.
The definition of irony is that there've been over 1 Trillion tweets in Twitter history—and it just so happens that Twitter's founder is also the author of the worst aged tweet in that history. #RIPTwitter
Beautiful piece by @ClintSmithIII on how we remember (or don’t remember) histories of racial oppression and state violence.
“It is the very act of attempting to remember that becomes the most powerful memorial of all.”

When I saw the proposals, I just knew there was a fellow foster kid in the WH. It was a pleasure to meet Sherry, a former foster youth who cycled through foster homes as a child when she had an aunt who wanted her. Representation matters in many, many ways.
I'm constantly inspired by @foster_america founder Sherry Lachman! This investment would be huge in keeping kids safely with their families and doing the repair work that the child welfare system desperately needs. https://t.co/fGFZPHJSf8 via @EricaLG cc: @GensUnited
