Fascinating case playing out in Alberta’s electricity system this very cold morning.
Very tight, virtually no wind, and the sun is up now but not much generation yet.
Moving may be a good solution for some people struggling amidst a complete breakdown in housing affordability.
Moving is not a viable or desirable policy response for an entire generation.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk.
@K_elly_B Damn Kelly. I'm sorry. I know you poured everything into running this place. The province has lost an important piece of its history, and, selfishly, a little piece of my childhood has slipped away.
@2closetocall@oneguysstyle@AddleyMa@DKTPH @Billius27 I don't think anyone wants to mask forever. I don't quite follow the reasoning that if measures are used now this will lead to measures forever.
@oneguysstyle@AddleyMa@DKTPH@2closetocall @Billius27 Midway point might include proper case counting and contact tracing, and masking in some indoor public spaces. It's becoming clear that business as usual means the collapse of our health care system. That simply cannot be an option.
@oneguysstyle@AddleyMa@DKTPH@2closetocall @Billius27 I think we need to uncouple the idea that returning some public health measures means back to some god awful lockdown situation. I agree completely, everyone is fatigued. It is also quite though that continual covid infections are proving to be unsustainable.
@oneguysstyle@AddleyMa@DKTPH@2closetocall Except it isn't. I know there is some graph that compares Hong Kong to Sweden and shows similar outcomes despite no mitigations. Neglects testing, ways deaths are counted, and that Hong Kong was wiping the floor with Sweden until it relaxed everything in Spring 2022.
@oneguysstyle@AddleyMa@DKTPH@2closetocall With Omicron, the inflection point where illness results in death is at around 50. @Billius27 demonstrated this. Though if this wasn't true, what's your point? If severe outcomes 'only' impact the sick and old, the rest of us shouldn't do anything to reduce transmission to them?
@oneguysstyle@AddleyMa@DKTPH@2closetocall A core reason we would not return to masks would be the effectiveness of vaccines, no? If vaccines are enough no need to bother, if they aren't then maybe we need to reintroduce other tools.
