@ScouseRepublic Nice to see someone acknowledging that the divide has actually grown over the years, so many younger scousers say it’s because of stuff that happened before their time, yet as you say it wasn’t as big of a thing back in the day.
@mulronie@tkmcooper@Baddiel Yeah I know, but I still don’t think it’s referencing it as the “meaning” of the song, rather it’s just adding context to when and where the tournament was, as the actual quotes are talking about fan disappointment of not winning something.

@tkmcooper@mulronie Oh crap yeah, but still I stand by my point, it’s about a trophy coming home, even in the original it says “I know that was then, but it could be again” they are definitely singing about a trophy coming home.
