The student's essay didn't even quote the bible. Seriously, they didn't put in the bare minimum effort to at least cite a passage from the bible, just vague paraphrasing. The paper was dogshit.

I've graded plenty of papers that contradict my own beliefs.

Including ones that denied my existence as a trans woman.

In academia, you are trained not to let your personal feelings influence your grading.

You focus on grading the work, not the worldview.

The issue here is that this student simply did not submit a college-level paper.

Even if we set aside the discriminatory language she used

She didn't engage with the assigned reading.

She didn't follow formatting guidelines.

She didn't cite her sources properly.

She substituted theology for analysis.

This wasn't an academic essay.

It was essentially a Facebook post turned in for a grade.

@Rispir1 So much of our modern thinking about things we consider masterpieces like Hamlet are derived from assumptions outside the text. Even if the writer(s) didn't intend for this conclusion its still a valid way to read into what you are watching.

@Rispir1 They post a video that goes in-depth in a pretty sensible way. This has been how literature has been analyzed for centuries, their claim is a completely reasonable reading of the scene. Just because you apply lit analysis to heroslop doesn't mean its not a valid interpretation.
