How to win at life:
- Step 1: Commit to doing a hard thing.
- Step 2: Do the hard thing.
- Step 3: Feel good about doing the hard thing.
- Step 4: Become someone who enjoys doing hard things.
Kindness is never wasted. 🤍 The love you put into the world has a way of finding its way back.

Beliefs aren't facts. They're tools. And like any tool, some outlive their usefulness.
Here are the 5 stages of outgrowing a limiting belief:
1. You don't know you hold it.
The belief feels like reality. "I'm not a math person." "I don't have willpower." "I'm just anxious." You're not defending the belief — you're wearing it.
2. You notice it, and defend it.
Someone challenges the belief and you push back. This is where most people stop. The belief has become part of who you think you are, so questioning it feels like an attack.
3. You test it.
Curiosity beats defensiveness. You run a small experiment. You take the class. You do the hard thing for ten minutes. You gather your own evidence instead of borrowing someone else's.
4. You replace it.
The old belief doesn't get argued away. It gets crowded out by a better one — one that fits the evidence you just collected.
5. You forget you ever believed it.
The new belief becomes invisible in the same way the old one was. That's the sign it took.
I've been through this cycle with my own weight, my own attention, and my own assumptions about what my kids are capable of. Every time, the same pattern. Every time, the last stage is the strangest — you can barely remember the person who thought otherwise.
Beliefs aren't truths. They're tools. Put down the ones that aren't working.
Using social media in middle school predicts lower standardized test scores in high school.
10th graders who started social media before 9th grade are ~6 months behind their peers on math & reading. They're more distracted by their phones.
No child should have access to social media.
Use this daily scorecard:
1 important thing finished.
2 unnecessary things removed.
3 people genuinely appreciated.
The 1-2-3 for a surprisingly good life.
Reminder: Sometimes life just sucks and shit hurts and that’s okay. You don’t have to fix it or change it or justify it. You can just accept it and keep living.
Being curious and excited can take you far, especially over the long arc of a life. The person who is a voracious lifelong learner will figure it out eventually. A strong reader with a healthy dose of curiosity and a willingness to try things is hard to stop.
Crusaders led by Godfrey of Bouillon defeated a Fatimid army at the Battle of Ascalon today in 1099.
This was the last major battle of the First Crusade.
THE US IS PUSHING JAPAN TOWARD A DECISION THAT COULD BREAK ITS ECONOMY
US and Japan jointly intervened to support the yen, with Japan alone reportedly spending $88 billion.
It temporarily pushed the yen from nearly ¥164 to ¥155 per dollar. But it has already weakened back to ¥159.4.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent believes Japan must raise rates again.
US rates remain at 3.50%-3.75%, compared with Japan’s 1%. This gap keeps the yen carry trade profitable and continues to weaken the currency.
Takaichi has resisted rapid hikes over fears of hurting growth. The BOJ has already raised rates twice since she took office.
But with imported inflation rising and 71% of voters unhappy with her response to living costs, another hike has become politically unavoidable.
Markets now expect a possible hike in September or October.
Japan has not raised rates three times within 12 months since 1989.
